Tank protector
07/11/14 7:54 PM

I did a search, but couldn't find anything. I just bought a leftover 2012 R, and it has the factory tank protector. Can I just heat it up and peel it off pretty easily? I've never seen a bike that comes with one stock. I want knee protectors too, and want it all to match.

You may opt to leave the stock guard in place and apply TechSpec to the sides of the tank and/or anywhere else you need grip or protection from contact. TechSpec is a self adhering rubber that comes precut or in larger pieces you can cut yourself. Good stuff. I have The Snakeskin texture. Sticks very well and will not move. Might have a hard time getting it to adhere around the more severe corners on the body panels but if that is necessary, you can always custom cut some smaller pieces to round the small radius.

Removing the OEM tank pad from a 14R is NOT for the feint of heart. A few folks around here have done it, and it is no easy task.

I put stomp grip on mine. Grips, protects the paint, and doesn't cover up that pretty green finish.

jtemple, Your section on gill side turned out good. I gave up as I couldn't get it aligned right no matter how much I tried. I just have the two sections currently on the bike.

I personally love the stock pad. Looks like s dinosaurs spine!!!

I have the cradle Kawasaki knee pads from the UK. Got em on ebay for $80. The only OEM pads out there from what I understand. Don't match the stock center pad, but they Really look sharp.

Thanks for the heads up, Guys. My bike came from the Dealer with a scratch in the tank, that I want to cover up. They ordered a couple of Color rape pens, but I'm sure I won't like the finished product. We'll see how it goes. I'll be sure and show before and after pics to keep you guys posted. Thanks again.

I did the tank pad replacement on mine and fit a Raskal Graffix pad. They're a decent size and the 14R ones suit the bike well. Getting the old one off is a proper bitch though.
