Rode the dragon this weekend
09/04/12 2:30 PM

So spent the weekend in Cherokee at a cool hotel (the gearhead inn) owner brought towels to wipe down bikes and stuff. Too cool. Anyway , myself and another member (heathun) rode the dragon and some other places in that area . was cool but weather was rough at times. Tennesse state patrol was too. (watch out at the end they got a scam going there watched my friend and 4 others get tickets all were sport or sport touring bikes. Watch on behind car get get ticket (BS) talked to 3 of them and they all got the same ticket 51 in a 30. Hmmmmmmm. but other than that it was fun and I got break in done on my bike.

Sounds like a place to avoid. What a shame.Speed trap.I used to run Mt Raineer rd in the senenties when I was in the AF.I was in Tacoma Wa,Only saw one cop in 5 rides. He puled me over after 30 miles.I didn't see him.He asked why?I never looked in the mirrors, was doing 125 then slowed down to 90 when I saw him going sideways in this big Plymouth Fury.He gave me a ticket for about $60.That was the nicest rode I was ever on.2 mile straights 100mph sweepers and fast switch backs.Reminded me of a racetrack. That was on my ill handling 900 Kaw.I used to lay down on the tank and cross my feet on the tail. Was like I wasn't even there at 132.Fastest I ever had that ol Kaw.Would love to ride this bike on that road Yahoo.

Yes, the Dragon is heavily radar-ed and policed the last 5-10 years. Mostly because there have been far too many serious injuries and fatalities from squids (both sportbike and heavy cruiser) who rode faster than their skill could handle.

Just youtube it, and you'll see why so many police cars and radar setups are in use.

The longer you live, the more you see things coming that you've seen before.

Back 30-some years ago, we could run the ridge road (Skyline Blvd aka CA 35) going to Alice's Restaurant with impunity. After a decade of doing it, and of having stoppy contests in the flat mile where the Alice's is located (people held up number cards, it was fun to get 10s), and of taking the road down out off the ridge to Half Moon Bay on the coast - dragging knee sliders all the way, the cops decided to shut it all down.

It went from cops stopping cross traffic so we COULD do stoppy exhibitions and such, to cops ticketing and even arresting people. All because of a few fatalities and public outcry that resulted in political pressure on the cops.
