Refreshing your bike
10/14/14 8:24 AM

After having it for two years I was considering doing something different to it to revive and refresh not only the bike , but my interest in it

Got Brocks full duals
Fender eliminatator
OEM tank pads
PCV

Any suggestions? asthetically?

Don't necessarily "need " more power but not ruling a flash out.

How about taking the bike to a drag strip and challenging yourself.

Gauges were easy. Took longer to remove gauges and take them apart. than to install gauge covers.

If you ride the twisty stuff at all then make some upgrades to your suspension. It will feel like a entirely new bike.

Best aesthetic mod I made was to change the clunky large front fender to a ZX-10 version.
Transformed the look of the bike.
So much more streamlined and easy on the eye.
IMO of course...
Many pics on this site (including mine) are available if you search "ZX-10 fender".

After having my bike flashed this spring, I would say that it is the one thing that I noticed the most about my mods; and the one thing I would tell people to do right away. It completely changed the power delivery characteristics of the bike.

Yeah zx10 fender is a great mode especially if you lowered the bike. Ive found when hitting the twisties hard in the lower gears bike can over heat as not enough air flow to radiator to keep it cool. .really only use 1st and 2nd gears when running hard.
love this road.

Is the 10R front fender a "bolt-on", no mods required item?

^^You need special brackets to make it fit.

I have a Yannashiki front fender for my Gen1 ZX-14. It is basically a very close copy of a ZX10 fender and it is a direct bolton. I"m sure the Yannashiki is even lighter than an OEM ZX-10 fender. To tell you the truth, it is a little "cheap" but I have had it up to 170 and no problems with it breaking off. It only cost me about $60 and it is nice and lightweight. If you get one, You will have to live with the mold seams (you could sand them down and polish smooth) and also, be very careful NOT to go more than snug (use Loktite)on the fasteners that go into the fork leg bottoms. You can use the OEM clip nut for the fork bottom fastener but be very careful it does not wedge against the fender or it will crack when you tighten it. I just busted mine breaking one of the fasteners free. Have to reinforce that with some plastic washers and epoxy now.

Yanna Shiki ZX-14 front fender in plain ABS finish. It was also available painted gloss black.

I got admit I like the ZX 10 fender on the bike

The wrap around stock fender gives it kind of a "gold wing feel"
