Our Beloved Forum!
09/21/13 3:26 PM

It needs to be said there is an elephant in the room. I feel I need to apologize. I sense our readership hath stopped posting, I feel (myself included) we have mistakenly posted in a such a way as to distract our forum from it's rightful purpose - comradery, sharing, supporting each other in our love of this motorcycle, regardless of how much knowledge we bring. I used to love posing questions knowing the veterans here would not judge me, but help me become a better (faster) rider. I am now a veteran on our forum and I don't like a few messages I've sent, everyone here is my brother.

Where did this begin, how did it start, am I responsible and where do we go from here. It needs to be said, respect and brotherhood needs to return to this place! I've seen a great deal of whirling controversy about the " Great Flash Debate." Got heated it did, and some of our members don't post anymore because of it. Because of these conflicts, we have started to distrust each other and some members continue to sling arrows.

There are those that detract and finger point while there are those that offer true unconditional assistance on here. Here are the facts. I have a Romans flash, a PC5 a full system exhaust with Dyno Tune and on Dyno day, I made 206 ponies. I paid 1100 to get there! I love my bike and how it runs.

C Blast has an ecu flash with Muzzy slips and he is making 212 (stock headers, no PC5). There are two excellent paths here! Both men have charts and stats and you are in a position to decide how to go! People have written and wrote about results, they are experiencing! Read these carefully and make an informed choice with what you have in your wallet and the results you want!

There is no right way, other than what you decide. People have slung hate and anger and fought over who is right! If we are trying to help each other maybe it's time to work together and stop fighting. Ask yourself who is slinging arrows and who is trying to help and you will find your answers. I believe this forum is a great place and I miss reading some of you guys!

Can we get back to a place where we can post anything we want, without retribution and go back to how it was... A supportive net work, information sharing and brotherhood.

I am willing to make the first move.

I start with this post!

I'm new here but I do see you guys falling into the dyno number chasing game. A dyno is a tool that we use to tune and NOTHING more. Horsepower numbers are completely useless from dyno to dyno and I have seen this kind of bickering on other forums. Weight, air density, and 1320 mph will get you much closer to apples to apples comparisons of power outputs between bikes. But hey.. I say if there is a dispute as to which flash, tune, exhaust, cheesy mohawk helmet, is the best then lets pick a neutral location and duke it out on the track. Winner takes all and the losers eat crow! It's a default loss if the challenge is declined. :)

Being grown up, mature, and objectional with a side of articulation is the key to communication between people. Rrealizing that there is more than one way to be "right" is also in consideration when dealing with people just my 2 cents.

Wolf; " I am now a veteran on our forum"
Calling yourself a veteran after less than 6 months, on a forum that's been around 7 years, is pushing it. The posting prince , maybe.

My favorite cheese is swiss!

Duke out, show down on the track is an excellent way to settle disputes, thank you Mav! If I had access to one that was located close to everyone we might accomplish this!

I have never been on or to a track in my life, since 21 (I'm now 40) I have relegated myy dance to private roads, streets and highways! Though not ideal by any stretch, I come from the urban poor, and as such I just feel at home burning along with lamp posts buzzing my tower and guardrails on fresh black asphalt! Again no disrespect about the track, I may try this too, but for now - especially after an early morning burn on a Sunday, where the highway belongs to me, and me only, I'll stick to what I know!

Ps I never race in my mohawk it creates buffeting at speed, making it hard to see ahead or read the instrument cluster. I wear my Arai on burns.

Mad Love
W

Oh sorry last point. I've seen fast street people go slow on the track/drag and I've seen fast drag/track people get ripped on the streets. These are two sets of skills. Not better, greater or worse, just totally different. When I burn I don't worry about running out of runway, I worry about coming up on someone after holding it wide open 3K plus after about 3minutes and while dancing. Linear launch stop go, at lights are not exactly anywhere close to the skill of the strip, drag bike and dumping the clutch at 7grand and exploding forward.

Final point here it's not apples to apples and riders ride best on what they know.

Alag8ter I am happy with post prince, thank you! I feel like I have in my posts got to share and know a lot of fabulous people, many teachers, mentor's and just plain ole offerings of invaluable advice. And that is what makes this forum great. On the note of advice, when I feel I can learn from a member I break out my note pad, suit up, ride out and burn off as many fuel tanks as needed to aquire the skill only to report back and look to elevate my game. I think this is what great riders know and do! Learn, reflect, set goal, practice, make mistakes, reapply accomplish and set new goal. I am a goal oriented rider and thus I love working on my skills, improving and getting better. I'd say too, along the way the technical advice I received from countless sourses have propelled me forward.
Thanks brothers you know who you are!

Bobs,
You're right. There are many paths to power. Some trident and true, some innovative and just plain brilliant and some "blow back you hair" all fling ballz! All of these paths require us to chase these results with our wallet. Some are more expensive, some offer a certain ride and some just meld with the rider's personal stance and philosophical mele. For these reasons, aforementioned the right path is the one the rider selects for his/her bike! For another man to comment and bring this relational, personal decision down and thereby sling arrows or give criticism is, well, just plain disrespectful. If I am asking ok! But keep your unsolicited critical put downs to yourself is what I'd recommend to some folks. I think this is where tensions can flair here. We were taught etiquette in school, things like make your criticism constructive and appreciate someone's passions, look for invited dialogue, check your own value judgments etc..

Another example, we all love this bike, and our paths are personal and reflect an emotional and financial investment. I don't like folks (usually on bike night for example) shopping with my wallet thereby stating with accusation, why did you get this, why not get that, or no shit, sometimes, take that off, "I wouldn't ride that!" If I ask ok, if I don't step aside because unsolicited criticism causes a weird inertia and I swing with my left!

I heard of a guy who rode to the US "DEALS GAP" and by chance met up with some very nice patient dudes on Harley's! He (dude from GTA) rambled on about why they would ride such antiquated machines and was "one upping them" by listing the capabilities of the zx14r and boasting on and on! UNsolicited and quite an imposition. Now I don't like Harley's but I can appreciate their lines, Chrome, growl and I'd like to focus on what I like about the bike rather than launching on about the negative features. I am sure they are well aware of the neg features or would prefer not to be told by someone with "I know better" entitlement! I give these US gentlemen praise, because if I was them, I might be inclined to defend my stead intimately! PS we all know zx14's vent fumes and have the Kawi tic, I don't need a Harley rider telling me that!

The only exception I can think of are some ole friends, some with an East Coast sense of humor and I recognize good wholesome roasts and good fun. I have a sense of humor, of course we all do! I am not bothered by critical lip flap from these goons! In fact I quite enjoy it. They are standing close enough so I can air punch a few swings or fly by them side by side, scaring the sit out of them (hehehe got you Beast) It's the mouthy keyboard lurkers that have no concept of respect (putrid weakling hiding behind the keyboard) that I think can do harm! Unfortunately I can't reach in and give them a suffocating bear hug or submission hold "sigh."

As I write this I will anticipate some jokesters that may post a riddle or two to follow! Haha! You know who you are,

Signed,
Prince!

Though idealistic and perhaps an imposition, I am seeking discussion and input on how to restore our Beloved Forum to how it was a unique forum where every participant looked forward to posting, the advice and insights were unconditional and a place where we did not feel vulnerable asking questions nor made to feel stupid. Join me in this quest. I may be directing this at the wrong people (audience) as the above contributors hold themselves with dignity, respect and in high esteem.

I am with you 100% Wolfman, I too have missed that 'anticipation', I used to feel in a good way about jumping on here. Often when a few passionate men disagree, the results can be productive. But if it is NOT productive or not producing a learning result for all, it is counterproductive to what we have here. I will strive to be patient, understanding, just, and firm. I love this place. It is a place of solace. A place where like minded MEN of integrity (and women), can open discussions that further ALL of our knowledge. I always try to leave anything I become a part of, a little bit better place than what I found. Several times here my focus has shifted out of frustration. Maybe a subtle RE-focus from Wolfman here is what we all needed. I know I did! I hear you howlin Wolfman! I am howlin right back sir. Thanks wolf, for caring as much about this place as you do! Thank you for makin it better with YOUR presence everyday. That is a leader walkin the walk right there. I will strive to follow your lead brother!
