Ok, here are the mods: Brock's CT-Duals, Brock's Street/Race map,BST Wheels with Ceramic Bearings, Motul 300V (120 miles old) with Petron Additive, Brisk Racing Spark Plugs (15 miles), 89 Exxon (10% Ethanol) and Startron, 55 Pilot Road 3 @ 40 psi, stock gearing and wheelbase. The highlighted stuff are the mods that aren't "typical" power modes: there isn't much data backing them up etc.
Map was a little rich and lean here and there but pretty close. to Brock D.
This is without any corrections: 178 HP, 100 TQ in 80 degrees weather at about 712 feet above see level. Pretty good for a generic map huh? According to the great Johnny Cheese I could milk a couple of hp here and there with the custom tune but not much. The bike was still making power after redline so we agreed on raising it 400 rpm. So a couple more hp could be gained there. An hypothetical 182 hp is pretty close to Dogo's number and that will be without the stacks. Speaking of which... I was explained how they weren't worth it. Most of them just move the power, they don't create any! Like J Cheese said: "Bigger is not always better" unless you have a guy that knows your engine in and out and build them specifically for you. Same with ported throttle bodies. To benefit from the mods you have to address the cams...etc, treat the engine as a whole. Johnny Cheese was kind enough to adjust my fueling at idle (too rich) and I will go back once I get the reflash, which at $375 isn't worth it either. Nevertheless, I figured that if I can get the top limiter removed, get a couple of ponies and raise the redline, why not?! I would still have OEM speed reading which is better than messing with a speedo or grinding a nut since the bike is also a commuter.
Overall, I'm a happy camper. Brock delivered big time. Steve, a Brock's Performance employee told me I was going to gain 1-3hp at most with a custom tune. They were right on the money! Pretty good given the fact that I used different gas, in a different location on a different bike!
For power addict get the ZX-14R. Johnny compared my power curve to a reflashed ZX-14R and I was loosing BIG everywhere. With the weight differential the difference wouldn't be huge in the street during roll ons but still the curve was scary. If you have a pre 12, my advice is to get a good pipe, get it custom tuned and call it good. If you have a R, the reflash is more important than the pipe you're using IMO. The game is changing and the reflash is the new tune! Special thanks to Johnny Cheese. If you're in Texas go check him out. He deals with all the fast guys in the USA. His credentials are stellar.
Disclaimer: These are not Johnny Cheese views and ideas. The guy knows his stuff and this is what I interpreted, trying to pick his brain up a little.
Johnny Cheese... The legend at work
*Like I said previously Johnny Cheese tunes for some of the fastest guys in the USA so I'm pretty sure his dyno is accurate.
