Does anyone know the oil filter "cap" wrench size for our ZX14Rs? I mean the outside diameter for a cap wrench. I'm looking to buy one from Snap-on.

good thing to have if you want to torque to spec but I think if you do, you will find tightening by feel better. Isn't the spec for the filter something like 13' lbs? Seems to me that would be a beotch to get off. I just turn till it touches and then go a half turn more. Never leaks, comes off pretty easy. I use a universal type filter wrench and if it starts to crcush the side of the filter when installing that is a sign to STOP. Maybe back off a bit. After having one or two filters crush down when removing, I learned snug is good enough. A socket would be a god thing to use on a stuck filter.

I bought a filter socket for my car and it seems to have worn out a bit after 20-30 oil changes. It will slip when i take the filter off. May be that some filters have slightly smaller flats than others. I line it witha rag and that seems to help. Snap-On should have good tools though.

I found it. It's a 14 fluted (sided) 62mm cap wrench. It also fits most Toyotas and Scions. I'll be looking for one that's cast aluminum and not the cheesy stamped steel. It's crazy expensive from Kawasaki, so for me, that's not an option.

The oil filter "cap" wrench should be the same as the Gen 1. I bought mine at Autozone for $5.99. You can find it HERE...

To loosen, I use one of these, works on everything !

I found a very strong, forged aluminum one on the Snap-On truck from "BLUE POINT". It's actually a 64mm for Toyota and Lexus. It's made for high torque applications...Like removing the factory installed filter. I dont think the auto parts store ones would last very long. (I also read the reviews.) This one is about $25 and I can use it on my bike, my Tacoma, Yaris and Scion X.B. Thanks.

Hell yeah. I had a dickens of a time getting that sucker off.

I always go hand tight plus a 1/2 turn, by hand, much like Rook. I remove the filters by hand, or with a large set of channel locks if they're too tight. Been doing that for 7 years and 6 bikes. Never a problem.

The filter is actually the only part I never use a torque wrench on. Everything else gets torqued to spec.

Is there enough room in there for channel locks?

Get one if these, it's only $6. Mines a different brand but it works 100% of the time ....
