Great deal... a steal @ $8,200!!!

Honestly the cheapest I've seen the R1 around is well upward of $10K.

I want an 08 1000 leftover for a track bike,
most likely a zx10... it will wear race fairings and I'll never have
to look at those headlights again!

Any pics of the CBR?

BTW when I said the rear fender was cooooooool, I meant the big round deflector down low on the back of the tire. That hanging down thing has got to go on any sport bike.

Thanks for input and stats, willid and Kruz and mass, you git yourself that 10, buddy!!!

I have a thing about unfinished business and the busa, I think is going to be that until I have one. I know the value is going to drop into the toilet in a year but the upside is that there will be no real design changes for years. The '08 ZX-10 will be almost obsolete in 7 years. When you buy a liter bike, you are living for the moment. I still love the ZX-10 though. Damn, I love 'em all. If I can swing it, I might get the busa and the 10 - but that would just seem ludicrously decadent. Three bikes in the garage all less than 1 year old! Nice dream though.

Yer right willi, the ZX-10 will be worth diddly squat in two years, that's why my new game plan is buy what I like and just plan to ride it til the wheels fall off. If you see a new bike you like, buy it but keep the old ones...might need a bigger garage at some point though. All these sportbikes take a hit but I think it's worse with the liters cause they change so much........and not always for the better. Look at the R1's horsepower in that '09 shootout, 146 at the wheel, a 2004 ZX-10 would smoke that...but it's not always how much HP you have but how you lay it down that counts. Anyway change for the sake of change is not always a good thing (where have I heard that one before?) all the manufacturers seem to be taking two steps forward and one step back( i.e.'08 ZX-14) If I could find a clean, super low mileage '05/'06 GSX1000 I'd buy it, one of the best track bikes ever made and could probably hold it's own with any of 'em in 2009. From what I hear, the '09 Gixxer is better than the '07/'08 but not as good as the '05/'06...go figure.
I agree about the Busa, I was thinking the ergos were almost as tight as my literbike but it feels like your straddling a tank by comparison, almost 130 pound difference. You'll feel that in the transitions..big time.

Magazine shoot outs are useless. The fact is the new R1 won the Le Mans 24 hours first try, beating the GSXR armada that has been pretty much invincible this century (6 wins in the last 8 years). Also, it is taking WSBK by storm, Spies isn't the championship leader because he crashed once and ran out of fuel on the very last lap of Monza, while leading. And let's not forget the championship leader (Nori Haga) is riding a much more mature bike, the Ducati has had a couple of seasons of development in it, while the Yamaha is a first year bike.

So, the magazines can write whatever they want, the true measure is in the race track, where the R1 is kicking everyone's butt. And that's fact, not opinion.

I should look at that. Now I could really see spending what..... 4-5K on an older used liter bike?... and still owning the two hyperbikes I love? That would be the most practicle way to decadence for me.

Couple of comments: "Magazine shootouts are useless". That's a generality and all generalities (including this one) are false. The guys that do the literbike shootouts are scribes who usually have some type of racing background like the Road Racing World crew. They cover a wide spectrum of skill levels and just like everyone else they have their opinions and preferences. What else would you like us to do, get our information based upon hearsay or maybe ask Uncle Guido? How about one of these forums? Bottom line is the magazine shootouts taken in total, not just individually, are the best source of info for us average Joe riders when making a purchase decision.

I tend not to look at what just one magazine says but when ALL OF THEM start saying the same thing I've found it's time to pay attention. Every shootout I've read has had unkind things to say about the R1, overweight, underpowered, crap tires etc. and it has placed everywhere from second to dead last. The CBR has taken first in all the same tests, are all of these testers wrong? It begs the question. I'm sorry if this offends anyone but I'm just reporting what they're reporting, don't shoot the messenger!

Secondly, Ben Spies, it is well known, is not riding anything close to a stock R1 in WSB racing. The magazines test what they are given by the manufacturer to test. What else can they do? Fast Bikes pointed out in their test that the bike that they rode at the press release at Eastern Creek in OZ (Youtube vid) would have won their shootout but the R1 they got from Yamaha to test was a dog. What's the difference? The press release bike was probably a built to spec machine not one pulled off the assembly line, i.e. blueprinted and balanced, suspension setup carefully for the track. I've had heard this from more than one tester about the new R1.

You gotta ask yourself, how many races have YOU won lately on a new R1?

The R1 is a nice bike in fact I like its appearance more than the CBR and the sound the R1 makes is just awesome. The CBR was really a third choice for me simply do to price and appearance. The price of the R1 is just out of line right now the hype will need to die down before the price of the bike is even kind of reasonable. All the new liter bikes are so close in fact all liters made in the last 4-5 years are very close in terms of performance. Anyone that can legitimately argue that one brand of bike is better than another should get off the Internet and start looking for sponsors.

That's sad my friend, if the R1 was what really turned your crank, you should have waited till you could get what you wanted at a price you could justify. Now your out the bucks and stuck with an also ran. Tis a pity!

Na, harl, we are watching, "buyer remorse." How can you go wrong with any bike? Guys are content with 750's and fear a 1000 would be too fast for them.

We are witnessing, "Detuners." This bike is just too much for them. They need to step down the fear factor. I have cash waiting for the next world's fast test is tickle my balls one more time.

Had a chance to discuss in details most of the track weapon choices
I have with someone who works at the NH Speedway.

Seems like the 08 zx10 will be an unlikely purchase to me
due to the violent power surge up high... among other important aspects.
The 10 would just be too much for my track skill level,
I'm not ashamed to admit it either, I know my limits.
Tankslapping all over the track trying to control the power would be not too wise.
Turning my attention to the 08 gsxr 750- with a good pipe and the usual
bolt- ons you are putting around 130 rwhp, as much as a stock K2 R1 for comparo.

What makes the new CBR1000 not a bad option either is the more of a gsxr- like
linear power delivery and more forgiving manners. A great deal on one would result
in one next to my 14, not many around here though... as usual.

The new R1 is like the 09 R6- more mid and some less power up top,
actually great for a street bike- grunts and goes like the other ones would
with some gearing changes. Again though, you can't outrun ugly... or fat.
I guess on a faster track the lack of peak power would really show.
It turns and stops great though- balance and good oem suspension IMHO.
The R1 has been gaining weight with it's last few versions- an obvious negative.
My old love the 04-05 zx10 might be still in the mix as well.
Killer for the price and cheap used go fast parts all over the place.

The RSV4 would have been the choice for me if it was on par with the japs price wise.
It isn't for obvious reasons- suspension and wheels alone make it $5K more expensive
That and the fact that I really just want a track only bike- stripped and in race fairings.

Again, great deal on the CBR and congrats!

We should have "My other bikes" section here- I like most of the choices that the zx14 owners make.
I think at this point we all know who among us own and enjoy their bikes.

yes,all of them are so good I'll settle for the bike that will save me 3500 bucks. Hopefully the zx14 will be updated soon and that $3500 will come in handy.

Dirty Harry said, "A mans gotta know his limitations." I guess no one has made a limit bike if I have cash waiting for the next world beat tear is quit year crying. HP does not come that easy is the print on that 14 was 2004 ~ Approx 2 years before the first release of the 14.

Think what is to come next and who holds the 2+2?

Most of these bikes are already putting out way more HP than most of us can deal with anywhere except in a straight line.......but that doesn't stop me from wanting something with a whole lot more! Hub, you never answeered my question, what is the next world beat tear?

Honda could, at will. They just do not. They have the same talent as the others. They just can do it a bit better if they did... Be the World's Fast BIRD?...... LOOK OUT?

Kawi has too much big balls history. Therefore, when the Z-1 came out, speed was relative back then. When the 14 came out, speed was again, relative.

Therefore, Since 2006... Use is found your limit? Last time I checked my balls, they were still growing.

Mythos you still haven't got yerself a boosa yet? As long as you've been lurking on the busa board I figured you had that deal signed, sealed and delivered already lol Don't feel bad, I still hang around the 10 board once in awhile. I had grand plans of selling my busa and picking up a 10 to scratch my itch........then I realized an ape like me who doesn't carve much, and never does trackdays, would have as much use for a 10 as a sailor would a limp d*ck in a whorehouse. So the busa stayed and the itch is going away What you need is to take a ride on a busa, once you taste that grass on the other side of the hp fence you'll see it aint no big thing lol. And remember somethings only obsolete if it doesn't thrill you any more. Don't let the manufacturers pull you're strings thinking you need this years bike to have fun on. The hp in the liter department really hasn't gone up much at all over the past 4-5 years. The only diffs are stuff that only a racer or track junkie would notice.....things like slight handling diffs, better brakes/suspension etc. I'd love to have a sweet 05 10 in the garage like the Dog has, I think it would be a HOOT to ride. Too bad it would only be around town for abit, then it would be parked so I could get off and get to some painkillers

Hub, last time I checked my balls, they were just gettin more wrinkly! LOL. Hub yer right, Honda could pull it off and make a world beat tear but my bet is they never will. Corporate responsibility is to blame, translated: they've lost their cajones! KHI has the bawlz but do they have the will??? Tuned no where near as radically as an '09 ZX-10 the 14 should be capable of 200 rear wheel HP. Now that would be a monster world beat tear and I'd get in line for one. As it is, I'm tired of hyperbikes that can't outrun, or even keep up with a liter. We get no respect even though we're the bid daddy on the block. Yea, we have more presence, we're smoother and more comfortable but so what? 10 years back everyone was in awe of the Hayabusa cause it was way ahead of anything else on the street, it kicked butt and took names...that's why it still has a reputation today. Not anymore, same for the ZX-14. Too many fast bikes out there that can keep up and then kick our butts in the fisrt corner. KHI are you listening? I want 200 HP rear and then you'll get some more of my hard earned dinero... mucho comprendo senioro?

Damn, it's good to see you back in action BadinBlack! I don't want to get all teary eyed here, sniff sniff but I must admit big guy, I've missed your eloquent prose on the new board. Just wasn't the same without ya!

As for Rook, your dead nuts on. Mod for mod, what he has will already outrun run any Gen I. Mod for mod, a Gen II will outun what he has by about .06 seconds in the quarter, the human hiney dyno is not sensitive enough to measure such a small difference. I like what one guy commented, if he's going to go into a racers crouch anyway, he might as well go all the way, ditch 120 lbs and get a liter bike...handling included at no extra charge. Rook, that about sums it up unless you just gotta have one...... in which case, except no substitute.
