Aussie on the verge of 14R-ness
02/10/13 12:24 AM

Hi All,

Firstly, great forum you have here...

I am from Melbourne, Australia...

Not that I need much convincing at this stage, but I just wanted to get a point of view. I have recently moved on from a 2012 ZX10R and am in the final stages of deciding on my next machine. I absolutely love the new ZX14R, and when I make the move, it will probably be for the 2013 SE.

I really just wanted to see if anyone has any real world comfort comparisons. As much as I loved my 10, it was pretty punishing on any rides over 1hr... even at the 30 minute mark I started to get a little sore. Ive been riding for many years and understand the dynamics of using core muscles and what not to prevent wrist and back soreness. Im only 5'11" and weigh in at 80kgs, but i never really managed to grow into my 10.

From what I hear around the traps, the 14 is a really nice compromise for sporty handling, power, and comfort. Has anyone here ridden the two that can give me a real world comparison?

Im not sure at this stage it is going to make any difference anyway... Im not yet ready for a cruiser, and as much as some of the Z-series bikes feel nice to ride, I want something that I can take my girl on, and do some half or full day rides with minimal stops, and really begin to enjoy the rides.

Any advice is appreciated, and I look forward to getting my new bike and sharing the excitement with you all.

Take a ride on a Concours before you buy a ZX14R.

Thanks, yeah I've ridden a mates concours. Didn't really like it, yeah it's ultra comfy, but I like a bit more style in my bikes while I'm a bit younger. Concours will definitely be my 40's bike I think!

I hear ya !!! I always ride alone and never take trips on my bike so the ZX14R filled the bill for me. I rode a 2012 Concours at the dealers and liked it. Very comfortable, lots of accessories standard and I liked the way the bags came off so easily. If I took trips or rode two up it would be the bike for me. The ZX14R on the other hand simply amazes me every time I ride it. How can it accelerate so quickly without spinning the rear tire or doing a wheelie? How can it corner so much better than my previous sport bike (2007 Hayabusa) when it weighs about the same? And the Golden Blazed Green (name alone is worth 10 HP) color is absolutely perfect. It catches motorists eyes wherever I ride and that is a good thing. Smooth engine with no vibration, great front brakes, 2 power modes and 3 traction control modes. It is a great motorcycle and you wont be dissappointed !!!

Yeah, Day Trips are sort of as much as Id ever do, possibly an overnighter or two, but I cant see myself travelling the country on any sort of sportbike. For me it was really about a bit more comfort than the 10R without loosing too much of the sporty nature. All reports indicate that the 14 is the happy compromise.

Anyway... Im picking mine up from the dealer tomorrow, so I'll get some photos up for you all when she arrives!

Thanks for the help.

I had an 04 ZX10R and the ZX14 is way more comfy. And for the street, you really don't give up that much in handling. Sure, on the track the ZX10 will stomp it, but for every day use, the 14 is real good.

I hear you, but the only answer is two (or more) bikes!
