I'm looking to purchase a case or two of Kawasaki 10 w 40 oil (and some filters). Does anyone know of a seller that has deals on cases?

Kawasaki oil is sold at dealers and it's doubtful any of them will run case sales.
I've caught case sales on Mobil 14T for around $8/qt at O'Reilly's. Cycle Gear gets $13-16 per, so $8 is cheap enough to justify buying a whole case. I was 2 qts. short of having 2 changes worth left from the last case deal and I copped a couple of $5 off coupons, so I got two for around $6 per.

$100/case is a good deal for Kawachem synth. I believe Motul makes it for KHI.

I dont buy it by the case anymore. I used to, and then I learned that oil goes "bad" sitting on the garage shelf.
What I *think* I know is, the additives will deterioriate not only with time and use, but just time. They deterioriate with time and use, sure, and the additive's deterioriation is accelerated under those conditions (time and use). But, just storing it, (just time) it deterioriates as well.
I'm pretty sure I learned that info on this site, prolly under some oil thread.
New oil thread, anyone?

I've never seen an expiration date on a quart of oil, so how do you know how old it is and how long it has to live when you buy it?

Good questions. I have no good answers to them.
The best I can do is, buy it only when I intend to consume it, and buy *that* from a high volume seller.

What's the expiration date on fresh water? Ocean water? Oil is millions of years old and now boil the content and does it expire? Gas and oil reserves? Even the gov hoards oil for long periods. I don't think the oil will go bad in a few months. I don't think the oil will go bad in a few years, nor a few decades. Will the additives settle out? Probably. Will the oil be any weaker? No. Am I a little overboard on the oil issue as if on par with a rotting banana kind of substance is not about to decompose during your lifetime? Most likely not.
When to buy oil by the case? When the price comes down is when... Whenever that is.

From what I've read, most oils don't have an expiration, even according to the manufacturers. As long as the API rating meets the motors requirements, you're good. Mobil one says 5 years opened and capped, or unopened. Another reason not to buy Mobil One.

I ended up buying a few dozen bottles of Golden Spectro 10w40 regular,in the blue cap and the gold, semi-syn. It was about $5 per bottle. About half price - in sealed bottles. It could be old. I don't know.

I used to work in a automotive parts. You don't have to worry about oil on sale (excluding Bike shops) It will go on sale at Oreille's, Napa, CARQUEST, Advanced, WalMart, and many other places. Buy your paints, waxes, cleaners and other liquids at a store that has many customers and fresh products. You make like shopping at a store that is not busy but the products sit on the shelves for years sometimes before they are purchased. And if there is dust on products move on.. they have been there for a long time. Helps??
