ZX-14 Valve Adjustment Class near San Francisco
05/30/12 11:21 AM

Hi, we just want to let you know about a valve adjustment class we have coming up this Sunday, June 3rd. Learn to adjust the valves on your ZX-14. Taught by a professional mechanic, he will walk the class through the entire procedure on a 2006 ZX-14, including a throttle body sync at the end. Class size is limited to 5 people. This is an open, hands-on class where the students will get involved and also have the opportunity to work directly with a mechanic and ask questions.

Thank you, but you probably didn't noticed we already have our own in-house ZX-14 classes, 24/7. And best of all, our in-house school is comprised of a group of great ZX14 instructors who share their knowledge FOR FREE.

Yes, we saw your EXCELLENT article on valve adjustment. It really is good.

Our valve classes have been popular and so we thought we'd extend the opportunity to this forum because this month it'll be done on a ZX-14. We teach the class on a different bike each month.

Agreed - it can be learned with good info for free. Some just like to see it done in person.

Kolfa, yur awesome, man!

I got pages of free advice from Hub and 1bad and others but you guys know how long that takes to wait for responses, have time to get back out to the bike, everything is all torn down and plastic dust covers taped all over off and on again....a pro instructor would be a great way to go and worth $100. I even caution people in the beginning of the tutorial that this is going to be a BIG commitment in time. for a hundred bucks, I think that is the way I'd go. Great opportunity for a first time go 'round on valve adjustment. Save you time and you can always look back on the tutorial later if you want.

Wouldn't it be cool to have online interactive classes like this so everyone could join in?

Not a bad idea, Rook! We will look into streaming our classes online. It won't happen for this upcoming class, but hopefully another one in the near future. We are a community based motorcycle shop where people come to work on their own bikes and learn how, so we'd be happy to share the knowledge with folks who are too far away to attend the classes in person. Stay tuned...

MOTO,

How extensive will that throttle sync be? You almost have to be a dentist with a mirror to find the screw.

Great shop layout you have there.

could I make $$$ doing that? damn. I plan to tear mine apart again before long.

...but we already have the tutorial which serves the same purp. I think having a good instructor that will keep the class up and be able to solve/prevent mishaps (like dropping the timing chain---disaster I would not know WTF to do about that) as well as answer questions specific to each student's project would not be replaced by a vid. You can't beat a classroom setting for providing the unique learning experience it provides (can you tell I was in education?).

If you can afford it, I'd go for the class. 100$ still cheaper than what the shop would charge you + you will actually know the job was done. Also, you will be able to do it yourself next time with a little memory jogging from something like the tutorial I wrote.

Hub, the throttle sync will be complete, including finding that little screw.

We will also have a follow-up clinic to this class the following Saturday, June 16, where students can come to the shop and apply what they learned as they adjust their own valves, with the instructor on-hand to help if needed.
