Continuation on the ATP turbo install
02/22/09 3:18 PM

Good to see some familiar folks.

Turbo setup is moving along and just finished the oil scavenge pump install.

I have left the flies in and it runs very nice in the low end and about the time the PSI is up, if there is a flies issue, I haven't seen it.

I had a dump pipe and got 'talked' to by a local PD friend who said some of his PD buddies might not be so nice... so I phoned Harry and he put on an Area 9, 2 1/4" exhaust. I do like a quiet bike.

Having the new exhaust setup required re-routing the oil return line from the turbo to the oil pan, which made for a valley, about 1 ½ to 2" below the floor of the oil pan, in the middle of the oil return hose, as it had to go under the exhaust pipe. It was blowing blue like the movies. I pulled it up, after insulating it, right against the exhaust pipe. That helped quite a bit, but would still get blue in sudden braking and longer-steeper down hills. so the decision for the scavenge pump. Works like a champ.

Here is a pic, except it is currently 7/8" lower than this pic, as on the front end lifting up off the ground, despite the extensions being on, dropped the wheel and there was some bumping/rubbing on the front edge of the oil pump. No longer since the lowering. There is about ½ inch I can still lower it before cowl restriction.

I will insulate the whole area once the stuff arrives this week, as well as pretty up-wrap the pipe, since it is a melding of a number of pieces of stainless.

I'm currently working on another windshield to provide more space above the dash. I have it cut up and am needing the rubber nuts to bolt it back on the bike. Then will come the 3 gauge console.

I also fab'd up a new rough K-N air filter, shorty that I like, as it extends only a little beyond the body of the bike. It is about 3" shorter than the one that came with the kit and flows close to the same as the OEM kit filter. When I am done with it, it will flow more than the OEM filter, and maintain the lower profile as well.

I will take some pics once it is all done.

I also thinking about running synthetic oil.

Hey Romans,

You know that's a good question, and something I wondered about what would happen before I put it on.

No, I have not noticed the weight addition so far. There is sooo much extra power I have not noticed it in the manner of conventional cornering or straight-aways. I have not hit the raceways yet to check much tighter handling, but with normal around the highway and town use so far, no difference, so I don't expect to notice any difference at the race way any longer.

This bike is a pretty heavy bike OEM. The stock exhaust weight -vs- turbo weight are in the ballpark about an equal exchange I think. Forty-ish (fortyfour) or so lbs range I believe.

What this bike needs now is a 7th and 8th gear for over 186 MPH!

The before, during & after photos were great . Please keep posting them . Our Canadian dollar now at 27 dollars on the hunred . This puts TURBO cost for me now at over 7000 thousand dollars and this does not including shipping or custom fees and whatever I might need for the install . OUCH .This now has become a Pipe dream .

Romans,

This last week I saw a 14 turbo header for sale, which other than the turbo, is the most expensive part. I think the person was asking $300? and belive it was for a GT30 turbo if I recall correctly. either eaby or on bikeland.org

GT30 turbo price?

a fuel pump

hoses and connectors

blow off valve..

all under 3K?

e-bay has 470 items for turbo header and only one for Kawaski and it is not for the 14 . I will search bike land . What happened to Bad in Black . I thought we would see some input on his turbo install ?

I've been messing about with the 3 gauge consol face plate for the last 4 week days. I think it is now finished, the 3 gauge wiring and connections are complete, oil, fuel and boost, and the top windscreen, lower raiser windscreen and face plate are drying today.

I am waiting on UPS to deliver some rubber squash washers for the upper windscreen before I put things all back together.

I raised the upper windshield about 1 1/2 by using a Pugh double bubble base:

On top of that is a Pugh double bubble. The front inside is painted black up to where the new 3 gauge colsole plate goes:

Here is a photo of the face plate:

A few more pictures:

Profile of 'Pugh' triple bubble. I still have to trim the back edge.

and gauge panel temp mounted. Once I run around a while and confirm placement, I will permenantely mount with brackets, I think. Maybe a few weeks. It will inset about another 1/2 inch towards front and fully over the OEM dash as the final placement. I will need to trim the lower left and right corners as well and finish the edging. It is currently held on with two magnets.

Romans,

I got the extension kit from a racing buddy's fabrication pal in Fla. I can look his email up if you'd like it.

I think it is about 1 1/2 taller than the Pugh double bubble. Straight above the dash to the bottom of the windscreen is about 4 3/8- 4 1/2".

Here are a few pics at night, with and without flash:

Holy cow Batman! Better wear a cape. Course with a turbo you probably can fly.

Here's a pic of the gauges in their final position. I removed the magnets and used two springs, with a small piece of feldt to keep the plate from maring the underside of the windshield. All I have left to do is put in/replace the final black upper plastic edging.

The springs worked well in gently pulling the plate snug and now it sits right atop the OEM dash.

Romans,

Since the Bazzaz unit did it's thing with the A/F very well, I am not going to go to the dyno! :)

All bikes, given a same base setup and in the ball part tune, will get within a few HP of each other on the same dynos. I'll use other folks numbers for my numbers.

Like Bob's. yeah that's what I'm talking about....
