The Upper Peninsula of Michigan
07/19/12 8:53 PM

I put 1966 miles on the bike last week . Been looking forward to this since I bought it last Feb . Started outside of Columbus , Ohio . Went north to Bay City and Route 23. This route runs along Lake Huron . A relaxing ride on a pretty much straight path. Went over the bridge at Mackinaw and headed west on Route 2 that ran along Lake Michigan to the town of Iron Mountain . From there headed north and toured Lake Superior . Nice roads , beautiful scenery and great weather. Will be going back !!

Isn't that where the Edmond Fitzjarald sank in Lake Superior.I remember that line.Superior never gives up her dead when the gales of November come early.

I should of put that was the National Seashore of The Picture Rocks . Cliff diving ? No way !! Awesome looking dog ! The northeastern tip of the UP is Whitefish Point . Its there they have a shipwrick museum thats cool . They show a 20 minute movie of The Edmund Fritzerald that sank 17 miles off the point . Included another picture where I pulled the bike off the road and snapped a shot

t ran along Lake Michigan to the town of Iron Mountain
OMG!!! Wish I knew you were coming up to da UP der 'ey? My hillbilly hometown is Iron Mountain! spending a LOT of time there these days. Chances are I was right there over at the woman's house or sitting with her at some redneck bar washing down a Jack Daniels with a cold Miller Light. So, how many deer did you see as you went through town?

Ohiomailman - nice pictures, sounds like an enjoyable ride.

Hmmm Guinness.... my favorite, (mothers milk). They sell it in "draft" cans with a carbonation widget that puts the thick cream head on the stout. If you found a woman that loves Guinness Rook..... Marry her!

I guess I know what I am having for lunch today - LOL

thanks ohiomailman! i remember now alright, i was in chicago years ago and remember looking out over the 'sea' trying to get my head around the fact that it was fresh water!!
i suppose its a result of living on an island (on the map, Ireland looks roughly the size of lake superior) its the sea thats the biggest thing to look at here!
seriously guys, im going to have to live to at least 250 if im going to go to all the places i want to go on my bike!

rook, best of luck with things, she looks lovely!

Rook , yea, sorry to miss you . Been great to have a personal tour guide . I did the iron ore mine tour out in Norway. Was thirsty and hungry after that . Stopped in for a quick sandwich and cold one in The Thirsty Whale . Ran into two 70 year old life long Packer fans . That turned into more cold ones .

Well Jaffo, Im sure you could put pictures on here from your rides on your little beautiful island that would put mine to shame
