Holy Crap, I found it!
02/23/09 12:10 PM

Geez, I was wondering what happend to the old site. I thought out little community was gone forever. If you all don't remember me, I'm the guy who had the horrific accident back in November www.rodneyspears.org I didn't want to join another ZX14 site because the old site was home to me. I stumbled across this one after googling, saw some names I recognized and was very happy.

Anyways, good to be back amoung you guys.

Rodney!

Holy Crap is right. I had looked at your website before (linked from the old forum) and was trying to find it again to ask how you were doing, but I couldn't find it.

BTW, I am with Calvary Chapel Grand Junction...

So how ya doing?

I always wanted to ask you about your crash. Rear brake locked up, right? Is there anything you could have done differently? Like more front brake, for example?

Very glad you found us... -bg

Everything is going great with me. Recovery is going good too. In fact my Orthopedic Surgeon (guy who put my Pelvis, hip and right ankle back together) couldn't believe I was up on crutches already. I don't even use my wheelchair anymore for anything. Its jsut sitting there collecting dust. When we go out I can sit in normal chairs, get in and out of the car normally, So everything is coming along. I got 3 surgeries left between now and June to go and I'll be good to go. My physical therapist said I should be running again by the Fall at the rate I'm going.

Hey BG. Yeah the more it was looked into the more it looks like a mechanical failure on the bike. Everyonce in awhile when riding I would tap the back brake for no reason really, especially when just making a straight line stop. It looks like, and I was told that somtimes the rear brake on bikes can lock up just by tapping it. Also, the police report said there was sand/gravel in the area which caused my front end to wash out when I was trying to stop. Looking back it was a total accident, nothing really I could've done differently. Maybe I should've approached the Stop Sign alot slower than I did, but since I still dont' remember anything that day or even two weeks later, I don't know what was going through my head at the time.

This whole time I never planned on getting back on a bike, but two sunday's ago I saw a Midnight Blue ZX14 at a restaurant we ate at and that old "I wannna ride right now" feeling came back. Even now, logically I'm telling myself not to ride again, but I just can't drop that feeling of wanting to get back on another ZX14. Thank God my wife still has hers, and I'm sure once I'm able I'll at least take it for a spin. The biggest deterant on whether I ride again will be if I get my eye sight back in my Right eye. The Doctors don't know what is causing the blindness there, and don't know if it will come back or not. I don't know how hard it would be riding with only one eye. We'll see I guess.

Anyways, thats the update for you. Doctors can't believe how well everything has healed up and how fast it has all healed. I can only thank God for that.

Also I'm at Calvary Chapel North East... best church environment I've been in.

Anyways, once again, good to be back amounst the ZX14 family here.

Rodney sure glad to hear you are healing even faster than expected!!!! I hope your eyesite returns 100% so you'll feel comfortable to ride again. For myself I can not even imagine a life without motorcycles. Or at least it's not one I would choose.

Hi Rodney-Really glad you're healing up well-just GREAT!With God,all things are possible!!!I locked up my baby right after I passed the "break-in" period(in 07).Yeah,I broke er in alright!!Like I said on another post to a new 14 owner-she won't stop as quick as she'll accelerate!Pretty much totalled my baby bodywise(everything was trashed)But the mechanical side somehow survived, and so did I.I never really considered Never riding again-but It definitely was a wakeup call from the Lord-I know that!So I patched er up with a new skin,CPBLUE,and it's been great ever since(course I don't try to stop anymore AT THE LAST MINUTELOL!)I'm so glad yer okay-things happen in a heartbeat, especially on these babys. You'll ride again when and if you want-To be honest-it would be a bummer not to be able to go out and ride again-but that's not the Biggest deal in life,Right?Take care bro-always praying for you-and yer fam.Take care-see ya on the forum again!

The only thing that makes me think I might not ride again is the fact, well two things, anyways, I severed all the nerves going down my left leg during my accident. Doctors said it would be a dead limb the rest of my life and kept telling me that until I started being able to move my quad muscle, yes a miracle in my eyes. Well, since then slowly the leg is waking up, I still havre no control over my calf muscle and whatever that muscle is that is by your shin. So shifting with my leg isn't an option unless my leg continues to wake up, which I'm sure it will. I also know there are alternatives to shifting and not having to use your left foot.

The other reason is that my right eye is still Blind, like I only see black out of it. Doctors once again said it won't come back but who knows right? God can do anything. How hard/hazardous would it be riding with only one eye? not being able to look over my right shoulder very well? Logically I tell myself that its not smart, but you know how it is, I just feel like riding.

You'd have trouble with your depth perception, that's for sure-on a bike,it could be very dangerous-but I'm trusting with you that your eye is gonna come back,as well as your nerves in your calf and such.Keep Looking Up!!"Behold,I will shew thee Great and Mighty things that thou knowest not-I AM the LORD"-be strong now-see ya in the forums!

I am so happy to have found this site as well. I missed the old forum and the information that was contained therein. You guys helped me, directly and indirectly, through so much sh#t in the past year. It is always great when somebody has been through it before. Happy to be back and thanks to the admin for getting this up and running and to the old admin for keeping it going for so long.

Glad you're recovering well.

Just on topic, there is a fellow named Jay allen here in oklahoma. He goes by "The man" on numerous forums.

Jay has a glass eye. Can only see out of one. By god, he's one of the most talented riders i know.

It IS possible... It WILL take some getting used to.

Just a few scriptures that come to mind Select:

Psalm 34:19 "Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the LORD delivers him out of them all."

Jeremiah 30:17 "For I will restore health unto you, and I will heal you of your wounds, saith the Lord."

Get well soon and get back on that bike and ride!

After all the encouragement from you guys, I think it would be a sin not to get back on one. Thanks again for all the encouragement. Only those who have been through horrible accidents really know how much your words help in the recovery process. Really keeps me going. God bless you all.
