I still think that whine/whistle is coming from the intake/stacks.If you ever read the "props" on the NEW z1000's,and a couple of other new Kaawi's(the big boys)...they made it a point to design the ram air porting so the engine would make an audible "ram air" noise at certain rpms.Mine does it....if the air conditions and rpms are right.Usually cool air,and around 4,5 thousand rpms in cruising mode.It is very noticeable in the cockpit.Don't know if anyone outside of it could hear it.It's very cool sounding...almost like a turbo or something.I don't think it's gear noise(with mine anyway).Usually does it with a semi mild load on it...just cruising. You can definitely hear it in some of my videos.

Yeah, i would have no problem if it made a nice whine when cruising or at high rpms. I just don't like it at idle. I think it sounds bad. I was thinking about removing the air intake and opening the ports above the fuel tank and seeing what it sounded like at idle. I have not done it yet though.
I am just riding and living with it.

Gotta tell ya Viper...I think yours sounds okay....I'm not really hearing something "bad" per se.I think one o the guys mentioned "sounding different with the fairings off"...yep...these motors definitely sound different when ya remove the "sound blockers".Why not e-mail Kawasaki and ask about it.They do have tech reps on there on some of the Kawasaki sites. You bought a bike that had some "minor" mods to it,yes?Have you checked the air filter?....may be aftermarket,or dirty?Just a thought. That could perhaps cause a intake sound, pulling that air through there?Try this....start your bike.Put a rag in the air duct at the front there.See if there's any change in sound.Maybe there will be?Certainly won't hurt your motor if she dies from lack of air for a moment.

Thanks blue,
That is a good idea. I might just do that.
It is a pipercross air filter.
I believe it sounds the same without the filter, but yeah, maybe with a stock filter, it would sound much different. That is a good thought.
