Tire out of balance
08/06/14 1:05 AM

Ive been noticing more and more vibration since my new tires were installed. or at least in the last 6-8 weeks. I thought maybe It was due for a carb synch, the alisyn 0-20 oil, or the plugs being past due were the problem.

I changed the oil, same issue. Then I finally got around to buying another go-cruise throttle lock. This way I could really hold the rpm's the same on smooth pavement and see where the vibe was coming from. SOB, back and forth twitch in the bars. WTF. new tire this spring, only has 3K miles on it. looks ok though.

Time to check the balance, so I pull it and have my friend use his balance kit. Sure enough, its off, but does take the same 1.5oz of weight. the shop that put it on, may have mis-balanced it. OR the tire slipped on the rim. but I doubt that.

the wheel also has a very tiny twitch in it side to side. After reinstalling the properly balanced wheel/tire 70% of the vibration I felt was gone. There is still some twitch in the bars I can see if I let go, but I cant be sure I can actually feel it. and it may even have been the road, I was in town and every concrete slab may have been causing it.

All in all, I'm happy it was an easy fix. So, check the simple stuff first.

I'm going to walk out a whack of a package, who cares, think about it.
We live in this magnetic field and that is you moving thru the air.
@ this phenom window of speed is having a gyro move over a surface>>>> like electricity.
@ 30 - 50 mph is this 'wave window phenom' happening to the bike.
Yes, with new tires you can feel it come right thru the bars, you have that ghost like feel between you and the grips.
Electrically, there is this static/noisy range. It is not used in some cases. Same kind of range in some window of staticause between 1.1v to 2v.
Wobble do you think of this? I find some strange waves all in this window of range again. I apply: mag/window/phenom.
Same as saying, I rode from 1.3v and it wobbles real strong around 1.5v and tapers off. I can't feel anything past 2v.

When you take your hands off the bars, what speed are we talking? Other than that, I cannot explain that phenom in formula and I'm sure it has one.

I balanced my wheels and will continue to do so since I have the tools but I've heard people say tire balance won't affect handling on a motorcycle. Maybe tire wear, but not handling. IDK. I'm sure my tires might get out of balance as they wear but I have not felt any wobble from worn tires. If you still have some wobble, could it be a warped rotor? You can buy a cheap dial gauge and magnetic base and check that on your budddie's balancing stand. I have a tutorial on that. "Wheel, Rotors, SProcket and Axle Inspection."

I think the most likely thing is a cupped front tire from hard braking? What say you, Hub?

For sure, my wheel does have a very slight warp to it. I didn't look at the axle though.

I held a fixed pointer to the lip of the wheel, but it wasn't all of the vibration/balance issue. I'm just happy that most of what I was feeling is gone. Before this rebalance, the bars were probably moving 2-3mm? Now its more like a regular vibration, with no visible movement.

Hub, it was the most noticeable at maybe 50-60, and above 80 when I was "hands free".

More riding to come today, and I can get a better feel of how much of an improvement it was.

Click on the song while you look at that image, read and hear the lyrics, and now lets take a ride on Bendy. What do you see? I see a straight up wheel as I look down at it I arrow thru the front end and call me looking down the forks. I now roll Bendy 180° forward. I am steering Bendy where? You are breaking my lips goes half way round it goes all the way goes around up the headbang, hear the fiddlefucking look out one more ducking, here I spin my lights around it goes without saying use got what you..... What goes around comes back around.

Whoooooooooooooo Oh waaaaaaaaaaaaaaa seeeeeeeeeeee waaaaaaaa due waaaaaaa the wa bull!

I wanted to see if the balance would clear this 30%, but really, this is what is going on 100% of the time if you think about it.

the wheel also has a very tiny twitch in it side to side.... if I let go, but I cant be sure I can actually feel it. and it may even have been the road, I was in town and every concrete slab may have been causing it.

The more you think about it the more you talk about it I'm just so about it I can't believe it's rolling this way. I'm not confused about it how can I report the old news about it I can turtle without it. Can you say bend my ear, you make it so very clear I see my wobble here it's not the slab or beer I'm not not drunk it's clear it's Bendy bent over here no here over there it depends on when you look down. Hey (hey) X'2.

TO ME THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A NORMAL WOBBLE IF THE ROAD IS STRAIGHT/PAVED AND FLAT

Slowmo,

How does a dragstrip sound as flat and straight? Don't bikes wobble and spit the human element off the bike rolling straight and flat?

Well, if I lay out a phenom of hands off bars between 30 -50 mph that induces a wobble; I can only see it as that boat leaving the water on a WOT move. The speed thru space at that mph. The nose is up in the air [saying the same thing of the wobble in that mph range] and when the boat planes even with the flat water surface [the wheels are out of that phenom wobble window] which I can't explain, but can see it moving on a surface and hitting that weave or wobble phenom mph.

ok, but lets go by facts: I have done it before with no wobble.....so all the theory that can be explain is just a theory which mean...Theory is a contemplative and rational type of abstract or generalizing thinking, or the results of such thinking....so who is correct.....the one that have done the test or the one that has it on paper....and remember im talking a around 40mph

I am exactly talking about a test and exactly at 30+ to -50.

ok, but lets go by facts: Theory is a contemplative and rational type of abstract or generalizing thinking, or the results of such thinking....so who is correct...

We live in a magnetic field and you begin to wave thru it, that 40 hit is WATT I am saying is happening. Ask Ohm's if he generalized measuring electricity. It had to be in the head before paper, yes?

..the one that have done the test ....and remember im talking around 40mph

Factory: Ring-Ring! Customer Relations.
Cust: I bought a brand new bike, brought it back to the dealer and they found no problem.

Factory: How can I help me?
Cust: Can I get you a cup of coffee before you hear my sob story?

Factory: Ha-ha, what is your complaint I have a busy day with the cars/bikes/farm/rec/vehicles.
Cust: Well, I took my hands off the bars to call a friend and the bars flew my phone out of my hand.

Factory: Yes, did you receive an owner's man you will pay for dis.
Cust: Yes I did but it's home not in the pouch under the seat with the thumb flap you mean?

Factory: Let me direct you to tech.
Cust: (music)

Factory: Techline, how can I help me?
Cust: You know that's what she said, but anyway, my phone is broken and I'm using the dealer's phone.

Factory: OK, this was the head's-up call I was waiting for. Are you the let go of the bars caller?
Cust: Why yes it is.

Factory: You're the 15th caller today and we suggest you keep your hands on the bars when moving.
Cust: (starts to sniffle thru the phone), dealer takes the phone from the customer, hangs it up.

True or False phone call?

Rod I bet you don't have a steering stabilizer. I bet that would help. Also would check the bearings on the steering head.

You guys...it's so simple. All this testing stuff...I've done...It's NOT bearings...it's NOT lightness at the frontend...it's TIRE manufacture and that's it.Wear.Ever try it with a BRAND NEW TIRE?I mean...right outta the lot....ever done that?I have.NO WIGGLE...and that's what it is...a WIGGLE...NOT a freakin WOBBLE.THAT's TOTALLY different than what's happening here. This is a COMMON finding of almost everyone who rides a 14 on the street. The tire is very pliable at initial installing. After you've run it through MANY heat cycles...it begins to 'form' it's regular characteristics. The chemicals in the rubber dictate HOW the tire will be.It's not 'just a rubber ring'.It's complex in it's design and chemical makeup. It changes over time.Certain driving habits will cause certain behaviors to appear in the tire the more it's exposed to heating and such.EARLY hard treatment of the tire can dictate how it ends up....thousands of miles later.YOU HAVE TO BABY YER TIRES for at least 100 miles.Manufacturers tell ya that."No hard braking"....No railing hard(at first). Most guys think it's about the tire slipping...as sometimes will happen.BUT...that's NOT the full reason. They do NOT make these tires anymore as they once did...with the 'baked on slick shit' for removal from the mold. There IS a small amount...but not enough to cause real problems for the most part. You can look at the tire sidewall...AND WATCH IT CHANGE OVER TIME.On the street,as the tire heats up(as it's supposed to do[cure]...you can see it...the chemical change happening.I'm not talking about the melted gummies on there...it's the color of the tread at the outmost edge of traction and no wear.Bluish...almost like a substance on there. It's NOT the same color as the rest of the scrubbed tire. It's coming from INSIDE the rubber...working it's way through the tread. And it's NOT the same color as the new unused tread. As you're 'curing' the rubber while riding...any input into that tire is gonna have an effect.Good or bad.

That's ONE reason I stopped doing those swerves to 'heat the tire up' at the time when the tire was new or fairly new. It's not ready for that. That's grind the profile and the sides will wear 'more' than the center. The 14's a heavy bike...the tires will take the brunt of whatever you're asking them to do.

I've now had this set on my bike(and it's not the first of this particular tire)for a few thousand mile...guess what?....NO wiggle.Whereas...several times before with a different brand and compound...I had this wiggle going on.DEFINITELY NOT a wobble...a wiggle...between 40 and 45/50...ON DECEL ONLY(with hands off bars)....the weight mildly transferring to the frontend.

I've done this test with and without hands. With and without steering stabilizers. Each time...I had tires with a harder compound in the center(for sport touring). As ya ride the tire...it doesn't wear down the center as fast as it does on the side profile...which causes a SMALLER contact patch....at that speed...it doesn't track as it would if the wear was even...or the tire makeup was 'softer'...OR the patch was wider. You normally do not notice the wearing pattern that's developing...it's very subtle.OR...how the tire is shaping itself because of how it's been broken in.It's critical to break the tires in gently and mildly.Track bikes are different. We're not talking about track tires here.

Okay....that's all folks;)Thank you for isteningLOL!!!!(or not

You need to follow this so you see how Grn nailed it. It was that simple. Seen your moment here is saying nothing because what the hell, who changes their tires without even riding the thing first. That's exactly what I did. I have an OE on the back, a different brand on the front. Idiot changed the front rim so the colors clashed and ugly it up some.

I am riding this thing and I'm thinking, well, sure handles kind of, 'if this is the way they present this?' It was just a snappy kind of upright, but not as pronounced as the first gen. I figured this was the new rake and trail but for the gen2. Same OE rim, same OE aspect numbers on the tires. This is how she handles/feels thru all those transitions.

As the miles played out to around 5k on the set of tires, on goes the OE rim and the OE tire at the front. Then, clash the other colored rim as the front is now original color and not the OE on the back, but still the OE aspect of the tires.

Ready?
Hole WE shit! Are we missing it! That bike changed the handling like a WOW-WOW baby, wear did you come from? I should have left both the OE on to really feel that gen change. When I sat up on that tire, I could not feel the snap up. I may speed that vid up just to see tire speak for itself.

What are the odds you buy those OE tires, shoe them back on the bike and now take your hands off. See what happens now? It's how HUGELY simple that handling sends the difference from the hinge up to your confidence meter.

I had a brand new tire on the front of the cruiser that had a deformed belt or whatever and was totally unbalanceable! Miserable shake at 30-40 mph. No such thing as perfection in manufacturing!

Yep, decel at 45 hands off the bars with a worn front, =shake. Some tires are better than others.
