Good question, as near as I can tell It was just some politician suck holing on the back of two bad accidents. Sad as they were, this new law has done nothing to stop street racing. The new law states that 50KM over they take your ride on the spot, plus a massive fine. And Get this, the people they are catching are mostly older people just over taking other cars. The politicians do not realize that what they have done .The people can not afford these kinds of fines and they LOVE their bikes and cars and do not want to lose them, so they ....... RUN . Now Accident. The latest thing here, seems to be have your plates on a cupbord door hinge and when you see trouble reach back and just flip your plate up and take off. The guys are making plans to Run . Like always when the stats are in, it is to late. SAD day for bikers in Ontario .IMO.That is my RANT .sorry(off topic).

Well I see you have had your share of head line seekers as well .I have come off the highway doing a 100 Km and not droped to 50km a dozen times, but now I am a street Racer looking at 10,000 dollar fine . And when the police tell the judge I am riding a Sport Bike......... I will get the MAX .So, no Real loud pipes for me .

Ontario passes tough street racing law

Street racers and impaired drivers now face stiffer fines and automatic suspensions of their driver's licences.

On Tuesday afternoon, the Ontario government passed Bill 203, which was introduced this April by Transportation Minister Donna Cansfield in hopes of cracking down on dangerous driving.

Under the new law, minimum fines for street racers will rise to $2,000 from the previous minimum of $200, with the maximum increasing from $1,000 to $10,000 — a penalty Cansfield says is the highest in Canada for street racing.

Cars owned by the street racers can also be seized for up to a week.

"This isn't American Graffiti. This is serious and people are dying," said Ontario Attorney General Michael Bryant about the tougher penalties.

The bill was passed hours after the sentencing of two men in the death of a Toronto taxi driver that made headlines last year when the duo was accused of street racing.

Both 20-year-old men were handed conditional sentences of two years less a day after pleading guilty to dangerous driving causing death. One of their cars slammed into the cab in a high-speed collision, but their lawyer argued they were just speeding.

No one gets the minium fine ? SO THEY RUN .

Oh ya, they got a 17 year kid doing 197km this morning in his dads Toyoyta Avalon(this is not the norm) . This makes front page news , But they do not talk about the 99% of speeders that did not slow down Quik enough.
