End of the road?
02/21/19 8:42 AM

Been commented on before but in European ads and shows the 14 now doesn't warrant a mention. All attention is to the H2 models and a retro 900. After the demise of the Busa, the Yamaha FJR, the Blackbird a while back I thought the 14 almost had the market to herself. If im right big K don't agree and we may soon be the proud owners of 'no longer made' machines. Ive ridden the H2 and I guess because ive been a 14 man for 9 years I didn't like the H2 and am sticking with the 14 if only because there is nothing out there to compete.

The Blackbird is gone for sure. The FJR, I don' know about. Looks like a sport touring bike. There's been a lot of talk about the busa being in the final year of production because of failure to meet Euro4 standards. This ONLY will impact places with Euro4 standards. The busa will continue to be produced for the US. That is the word on hayabusa.org. Don't let the internet article fool you.

If the busa is being sold, the 14 will keep being sold as well. I hope Kaw kicks it up another notch with a ZX-15.

All models come to an end. At anytime the State and Federal Governments could make motorcycle owners comply to standing Laws.

When the Kawasaki 1990 ZX11 came out our Government was thinking of reeling in the Motorcycle Industry.

The bike manufacturers will always leave a door open to ever higher levels of performance. Like now, they just won't sell them that way.

I love seeing these kinds of posts! Brings me back to the first time I saw a ZX-11 in a movie called New Jack City. The scene is what had me dreaming of owning my own ZX-11 for months to come...and then one day it happened. I bought it from a cop in Oceanside, California when I was a corpsman in the Navy back in October of 1992. I'll never forget that day...the cop was a really nice guy and kept telling me..this isn't like any bike you've ever owned please be careful! LOL. Genuine concern for me was heartfelt...a year later he saw me hanging out with the guys down at Pacific Beach at Cafe Crema. Wow those were the days.

Long live the hyperbikes!

The Kawi Concours forum guys are concerned the Concours is at an end, too, but like Rook said the FJR is a def sport tourer, as is the Concours. I suppose the H2 SX could be considered a replacement for the Concours (but not to me), but man I really hope the H2 doesn't replace the ZX14 since I love BIG BORE and have no interest in a super charger (or turbo).

Again, agree with Rook: If anything, I hope the 14 is followed by a ZX15.

Kawasaki is in the enviable position of being able to produce models that are no longer cutting edge but still sell well in certain markets. The Concours 1000 is the perfect example.

The ZX-14 will continue to be produced as long as it sells,(and can be made compliant with ever-changing regulations) and with the competition getting thinner by the day, it could continue as is for several more years with only minor updates.

You can understand why their advertising concentrates on the latest and greatest; they have a lot of investment to recover just to break even on the blower bikes and the tooling for the 14 has long been amortized. Why advertise something that does nearly everything a blower bike does and compete with yourself?
