Clutch Lever Issue
09/26/11 4:25 PM

Guys, I need a little advice please. Not sure what to try next:
I put in the CC Drag pack fibers, Metals & springs.... Worked Well for 200 miles then noticed what I thought was slipping and realized that my clutch lever was not fully releasing so the clutch was not engaging 100%. I have Pazzo levers and cleaned & lubed the lever and housing then re-assembled. Is there any way to put a little more spring in the lever? about 1 month ago I changed all the brake & clutch fluid 100% with fresh Dot4... Old fluid was murky after 3 years and 4K miles on it. I do ride the bike very hard and try to keep up on all the maintenance.

If you did not grind down the Pisso or reinstall the stock lever, you've been wearing the pack down some. That tip has to be filed down so you have the stock master's plunger retracted more. Right now, it is loading the push rod. Thing is you can't tell being it's a liquid lever. A steel cable would have no free-play at the perch to lever and would be slipping as soon as a harder load was placed upon it.

As far as spring in the lever? What are you comparing that with? You mean the adjuster like the stock lever's option? The Pisso is so so spring wise? Write a letter to the factory. That is a redesign problem alone with the lever for the 14's. It's common with a PissoWOT? Aftermarket never fits that well anyway, right? Okay, in this case anyway.

I've heard of a few guys having the same problem with aftermarket levers... you'll have to make the hole that the clutch master pin fits into larger to fix it.

CRG's fit great.

Thanks for the reply's. My lever has some slack and the Pazzo's do fit correctly (when clutch is popped it goes all the way out and I have more than a 1/2" travel or slack). When I release the clutch it has good engagement but after I am moving the lever needs a little more "spring" to have 100% engagement. I am thinking I need to bleed the upper part by the clutch lever. Really frustrated that I replaced stock clutch and probably douched a new one because my lever was constantly slipping the clutch for 200 miles... Will bleed and update, I appreciate your feedback. Thanks again!

Dogo, I read your signature and wanted to share a very unfortunate experience I had with the Gilles adjusters. My 14 used to have them on it until I broke one while riding and almost killed myself. I contacted Gilles and they had explained that the 14 makes too much power for them stock and refunded my money. Just a heads up.

Edit- Found image... got to love photobucket

I have Pazzo levers, and the instructions even included a picture of the "hole" you have to make sure the new lever's actuating pin goes into. If you don't get it in, you could have a problem like described above. They thought it was worth a paragraph in the instructions.

Mine have caused no problems, even had the clutch apart as part of a major service to install something, and it all still looks good.

I piled almost 7,000 miles on this riding season, too. The clutch is fine, the Pilot Road 2s look like I haven't hardly run them (other than being scuffed good all the way to the sidewall edge), and the levers feel exactly like they did newly installed.

My experience with stuff like that, I've had times I got a lower quality part trying to save money, and after a while it got loose or whatever. These Pazzo levers seem well made.

Good lookin' out, Seno!

I'd heard, and seen vid of, them breaking on a turbo Booza... but not a stock motor 14! Too much power stock?

Just curious, not at all trying to place blame, but what did you torque the axle nut to? Reason I ask is, I have to run mine @ 50ftlbs (about 50% of factory specs) because of my Carro's... Was already a little worried about the adjusters because of that, and have been keeping a very close eye on them.

Privateer- Thanks for your input, I dumped thousands into the bike before it has 1 mile on it. I honestly do not know nor have I seen the pictures because the dealer did 100% of the stuff before it was picked up. I will do a search online and find the installation directions then double check the dealers work... What a surprise it is going to be if they did not do it correctly (unfortunately I have been disappointed before from the dealer, its a shame my friend is the owner or else I would have found another wrench around to support).

Dogo- Yes my motor is completely stock inside with all bolt on's, this winter its getting built by Carpenter or Competion CNC. I have always used a good quality torque wrench and set the axle nut to factory specs (94 or however much more I need to line up the cotter pin).

Privateer is there any chance you can upload the picture please (if you still have it)?

It is about 60-90 minutes to either one, where are you coming from? I will be around, have been a lurker a while but started posting not too long ago. This forum has good info, and people from what I can tell. Can't decide about how much work I actually want to do as of yet. I was going with the CNC package and emailed him 2 times, then I called him a few times and got a machine... Getting a machine is fine but left 2 messages and he never called me back...... guess he is too busy to earn my Looks like Carpenter will be getting my money or I might just send it out for machining and build it myself.

Carpenter is pretty slammed to, but if you send him the engine and the cash, it will get done right.

I have plans for his handiwork myself, wouldn't trust it to anyone else.
