spiegler bars

Any one got any experience of fitting and riding with the LSL bar riser kits on the ZX14? Are they easy to fit. Did you need to replace any cables etc?

Easy to install and supplied in the kit is the new braided front brake lines. Throttle cables will be on the bottom side of the bar instead of on top. Rost of the job is easy.
Easier to ride and more comfy is my opinion.

lytnin, does the kit come with more then 1 brake line? I got a kit on e-bay and the person said it was a compleat kit.,I even e-mailed him and asked if brake lines were included and he said yes. What I got were: 2 handlebars, treple tree,2 brackits for the brake and clutch cups and 1 brake line which looks like a regular line(made of black rubber, not braided).I have a 2008 ZX14 and I think he had a 2006,if you look at the LSL sight it looks like the kit fits all the
zx14's.Does anyone know how long a reg.brake is?

I couldn't stand the stock riding position on my 2008 ZX 14, so bought a set of GenMar risers. Better, but still too much of a forward lean for my 55 year old body. Then I found the LSL bar back kit through Spiegler.

very complete kit, came with a really nice black Superbike bar, new top triple clamp with setback risers, brackets to reloacte the clutch and brake master cylinders, and the three braided brake lines for the front, with the top brake line being longer than stock.

installation was easy with basic hand tools, although be aware that you need to drill and extract the two "security" bolts which hold the ignition switch to the stock upper triple clamp. Just unplug the ignition swithc, remove the top triple clamp with the ignition switch still attached, and then deal with the two ignition switch security bolts with the stock upper triple clamp upside down in a vise...

The LSL Superbike bar kit transformed the riding position of the bike for me, very comfortable, still a nice forward lean but no need to crank your neck back just to see forwards.... I have had the bike to about 9,000 rpm in 6th gear with the LSL kit installed, and the bike was still solid and stable, doesn't seem to have disturbed the higher speed stability at all.

as you are sitting more upright, your head is higher above the screen. I added a Laminar Lip to the stock screen, works very well. Then I added a pair of GIVI V 35 bags, perfect "rocket touring" now, the bike covers a lot of ground comfortably and very quickly, which led to me also add a Valentine 1 radar/laser detector, on a Saeng control mount.

on my 2008 SE, all the stock bar bits/triple clamp etc are black. When I bought my LSL superbike bar kit from Spiegler the kit was all bare aluminum except the black Superbike bar, before I installed the LSL kit I had everything in hte kit black anodized, cost me $65 and one day turnaround from a local anodizing shop, well worth considering doing if the LSL kit is still only avaiolable in silver.

Anyone know the correct Acerbis insert kit for the optional Spiegler handlebars? I don't want to use the set provided with the LSL kit, but rather one with a bit more backset. In any case, I want to hang stock bar ends on it, so need to find the right Acerbis inserts for it.

Saw a post a while back, can't find it. An exact model number would rock. Thanks!

Thanks, blue, I had in fact seen that.

I was hoping someone had the part number from the blister pack they came in. Guess I'll just buy a 7/8" version and hope it works, though Acerbis makes a few different 7/8" versions.

Privateer-I bought the inserts pictured here....www.jcmotors.com.These are the ones. But I got my inserts at a Yamaha dealer here. You see the large ring there-that has to be cut off-leaving the shank intact. Then you will have to remove one, possibly two of the "expandable" pieces that are part of the shank there so it will slide into the bar end.Use extreme caution when installing these-you don't want to lose the tigthening tip inside your bar there.Screw them toghether a bit, then slide into the bar for the final tightening and adjustment.I would not crank down REALLY hard on the bolt.Just make sure that "tightening" part is lined up(the little tab on it(two of them)with the slot for the shank.I had to file off a bit of the shank edge there where it contacts the tightener piece so it would slide in there when tightened. You don't want that piece to hang up on the shank end.7/8ths-yes-that's what you want.Sorry-threw away the packaging a while back!

Thanks, blue07, I got a pair, and with a little machining, they'll work just fine !

Sometime this month I should be able to order the LSL kit, and will substitute higher bars with more displacement backwards.

Regarding taking the switch out, laverda wrote, above,

Turns out if you use a punch and a small mallet, you can turn those security bolts out all in one piece. Just engage the point of the punch (you need a small diameter one) in the head of the security bolt, at an angle, and tap it, which will turn the bolt out.

Yep-that's how you're "supposed" to remove em.I had to grind off a bit of the bolt housing to get mine out-it worked alright.Privateer-The Superbike High Bars are probably the ones you want then.If you buy the "complete" kit-it will come with (I think this is right)the LN 01 bars. You will need to contact them and adjust the order so they will switch out the kit bars with the Superbike Bars. You MAY be able in your order to just change the bars at that time-I can't remember now.I think I just put "in the notes" there(with the order)that I DID NOT WANT the 01's-that I wanted the Superbike High Bars. They sent me an e-mail or something saying the High Bars had not been tested for the fitment of the supplied lines. They did however fit just fine.

Cool, blue07 ! Good to know it works with the Superbike High bars just fine.

Once I get that done, going to decide who makes the seat. Leaning one way right now. It will be a lot different from the stock seat, or even the normal aftermarket seats, because most of the lean will be gone, and I like to not stop until I almost need a full tank of gas on my 2- or 3- day rides.

I've said it before-ya-you want to ride all day(tank to tank)(me likes)..the best arse mod IMO is the Connie seat.I personally couldn't believe how well it actually worked.I've NEVER had any discomfort with mine-ever.I ride like you-all day.

Well, then, a Connie seat it will be. Any recommended year or have they remained the same since the 10 ?

Probably the 08 would be fine.Switch out your seat latches-that should do it.You won't regret it.Your seat cowl won't fit on there-but either you or a decent upholstery shop can shave the rear pillion to the stocker profile for ya and fit your cowl on there.Still would be fine for two-up.OR,just leave the cowl off-still looks okay IMO.I don't ride two up-so I sculpted my pillion to fit the cowl.
