ECU Flash Comparison ECUleashed vs. Ivan's
07/21/12 4:48 PM

This comparison consisted of riding around, testing functions, and dyno pulls. For this I had my ECU re-flashed back to the last version which did not add fueling but removed the lower gear restriction (cough), Top Speed limiter, and a few other bells and whistles that escape me now... I believe there might have been fueling left in, and Ivan said it also. With that being said, here is what I found out regarding the flashes.
First thing we did (Ivan and I) was to put his flashed ECU in my bike and ride around. I honestly thought my bike was running the same with both ECU's at first I did not notice anything ground breaking and said "If I didn't know that you swapped these I would never have noticed". That was after a quick 5 minute blast, literally. When I mentioned this to Ivan he told me to go on & off the gas at low RPM's and notice the response. I did notice that his ECU was a bit more responsive. Next we took the bikes out and did some rolls from 2nd and the "safety" mode has definitely been removed from his ECU, mine has definitely not..... After that I took his bike out and he told me to go 2nd gear 5K-6K and go WOT, which I did several times and his bike is much easier to wheelie (stock ride height). Well after this was all fresh, I popped my ECU back in and went for another blast on my bike with my ECU for another comparison. The differences were more dynamic after riding around with back to back ECU's, and his KTRC stays in the last mode it was left in.... Mine was supposed to but did not....
OK next is the Dyno runs, as you can see from the dyno chart the ECU's are so damn close after 6K that its negligible. We did several pulls in 2nd but there were traction issues, and all the pulls were within 3-4HP overall. BTW, we only ran his bike... He offered to put my bike up and run it also but frankly I only wanted to see ECU results, didn't want to turn this into what setup works best thread (besides if there was fueling left into my ECU it would not be a proper test).
In a nut shell, if I was going to get my ECU reflashed.... Ivan would get my business at this point. Ivan's bike with his flash, map & pipe felt seamless from way low to way up high. If any of the other ECU guys feel up for a comparison I would be willing to do this again with all 3 or 4. Just as a point of reference, Ivan's flash is DIFFERENT than the one Guhl sells and Brock sells so you need to go through Ivan to get this.... If you send your flash to Guhl, you're going to get A Guhl flash, not Ivan's.

I've posted my comments elsewhere. I choose here to thank you and Ivan for your efforts... not that I don't think you two birds didn't relish every second of testing.

Third gear was chosen because it is the highest gear that will show the safety mode... it still spun a little around peak torque.

2nd gear was impossible to have traction even when strapped down very tightly.... it just blew the tire away.
(Gears 4,5 & 6 do not have the "safety mode")

Doing the pulls in the upper gears won't show what we are showing here.
(Traction control set to off on both ECU's)

We did not want to do a pipe test because it would just stir up a hornet's nest.... this was just an ECU only test.

Ivan your telling me your flash gets rid of the power loss in the first 3 gears or justs opens the flies quicker?? Because i already removed my flies but if u removed the power loss thats another thing totally. How are u the only one who knows how to do this? Or does brocks flash removed it also.I will def. buy your flash if your telling me it removes the timing power loss in the first 3 gears. Does your flash mess with the gear indcator though?? Like i said i already removed my flies so i thought these flashes were not worth it for me,but i would be instresed if it removed the power loss in the lower gears. Do i need to send you my ecu,and i live in jersey so how long will i be without my ecu.

Hey ivan on your website it doesn't say a price for just the flashed ecu.I have a brocks ct system and brocks street map already, will your flash work well on my bike? Or is it not really worth it?

Wow! That's the first time I've ever seen a flat line from 3200-4000!!
Is that the famous limiter??

If so, I'm assuming it only does it in first through third gear or,,,,??

Thanks for your time both of you!!

Smokin, ECUnleashed flash is in my bike.... not for long though. Regarding the flies, they are still in place.

I was thinking about what has transpired with my bike and how many times it's been in & out of the tuning center...... I'm done dealing with it at this point, going to have Ivan flash my ECU and pay the man his money... Yes, it was really that much better. I got the ECUnleashed ECU mods for free, well at the expense of my bike being tied up over there 2 months this winter, and 6+more trips back and forth.... And they want my bike back again to test another flash... Not worth my time at this point.

It's not that simple... The responsiveness overall was a major difference. By removing the flies, you are not going fix the responsiveness, and also its going to cost you a few HP up top... Besides the fact, If I do something on my bike, I don't do half a job. Each to their own, If I had it to do all over again I would have brought the GoPro camera with suction cup mount and filmed both rides. If I ever get my hands on a Brock or Guhl ECU I will add video footage when I do a comparison.

Half a job?????Removing flies is the ONLY full job. Ecu is half the job.

Do the research and you will see that pulling the flies costs you HP up top. The cheap fix is to pull the flies, the best of both worlds is to have the flash take care of it and fix the issue without costing you HP.

So seno your telling me that losing two horsepower is alot. Come on man nobody who rides on the street will ever know it. Hell u lose more than that going thru different gas grades for god sake. But to each there own. Just cant fathom spending that much when pulling the flies is so easy. I pulled mine and have full exhaust and pc and my bike is very smooth and very very responsive. Seems to me your just chasing dyno numbers again. Which mean nothing really but i guess just keep chasing. Hell lee is setting records and he pulled his flies and he is actually racing his bike not racing on the dyno.

Just don't think spending another 425.00 TO GET 1-2 HP IS WORTH IT!

Every tuner has his hand out trying to generate more money/business and claims to give better performance and HP, but the 14r is already such an awesome bike out of the box..when you put on a full exhaust and PC it is pretty close to 210 HP at the wheel.......another 425.00 to get 1-2 HP more seems ludicrous amount for what gains you receive.

Ninjawarrior1244, Goldwingmann, GixxerJohn, zx14racer, it is a chore keeping up with all your names.
I don't understand what is the point to try to discredit some of the people who are out there working their asses off making our bikes to perform better. If you feel that anybody's product is too expensive, or you don't agree with their business policy, you don't have to expend the money.

+1, it's your bike man, do whatever you want... Good luck :-)

Is it possible the secondaries serve other functions other than modulating down engine output in 1-3?
So far as I know none of the ECU hackers has come out and said,"we know how KTRC works, this is how it does what it does".

My point is some folks have such an erection for power they are rendering inoperative a sub system which may serve other functions.

I would rather buy the ECU flash that forces the offending component to behave in a manner of my choosing.

Thanks seno and Ivan for getting together and doing this for us! Giving us a comparison can help us make up our minds on what we want. Also, dont mind the rabble, your productivity is alot more helpful then the bashers hating!

I look to see more comparisons soon, actually I wish someone would test the motor boost wise so I can make my decision! haha

Very well said, I could not have said it better myself! I have a major erection for power but do not want to make any of the sub systems inoperable.

Ivan deserves all the credit for taking the time out of his day. We spent close to 3 hours riding, testing and running the dyno. Ivan's ECU flash is really exceptional, ultra responsive, smooth, and has every feature that is important... I am sold, my ECU is on the way to him as I type this. Ivan will have a map for the PCV to support his flash with the Brock's CT pipe also...
