Flip Up License Plates
07/14/13 10:34 AM

Boyz the time has come to set up an electronic switch to flip up the license plate. In the event of...well you know.
Any suggestions on good systems, or can some folks recommend a good set up they have mocked up?
Mad love nation!

I had one on my 07, more it's more of a novelty than functional. With the police cars these days most have a cam, and by the time you realize they are behind you or coming.... Well they most likely got you. I don't care how fast your bike is or how good of a rider you are, you can't outrun a radio.

Seno very true! We have a toll highway up here that uses a camera to take a pic of your plate. I'm thinking this might pay for itself lol(; but yah, only in rare instances does such a mechanism help!
Thanks for the link!

I wouldn't count on the flippy plate. If you are going out to severely break the law and you already know your gonna run...might as well just take the plate off or make a fake one. That's what I would do if I was at that level of hooliganism but not yet. Maybe when I am so old I don't care any more.

Only way I can see outrunning cops is lots of track days and a good plan/knowing best conditions. Evene then, too much adrenaline and not enough confidence.

I have often wondered if you are photographed on a bike with your license plate, how do they prove its you if they don't ever see your face? I'm sure they would go to your house but if you don't come home for a week they ain't gonna wait that long. Could easily have been a case of stolen bike ridden insanely by some degenerate bike thief. I'm sure the stolen bike could be conveniently found undamaged in a parking lot.

Seno, ghost plate and other flip (screen plate) seem to be for cars only any suggestions for the bike?

I kinda like Rooks idea the best, mock up one. That could be fun!

Wolfy, this is going way back when I was in my early 20's. Gotta remember, I gathered 14 tickets within a year? Was put on probation. Met about the ugliest DMV woman or just any woman: was her. She must have gaving me a pass, because she held the license sort of speak. After that, I was going to run [before it became a felony] from the next gumball light on me. So I had a toggle for the taillight to go out. I had a plate that was spring loaded with cable.

I took a choke cable, ran it so I could pull the plate up. It was triggered in such a way that when you pulled, the spring was laced thru the cable so it kept it up there. Pull it back or I forget? But either way, it worked with the spring in between the lower plate hole and a hing at the top so it swings up anshit.

If it's not a felony or some minor offense, just think about this. I saw a guy that was driving real fast on the street. Just had to get there kind of driver. Me collecting 1 too many tickets, I'm being a good boy. So I'd say it's about 2, maybe 2.5 miles I see the same car sitting at a light. I coast up to the light and it changes right then and there.

There's a speeding moral there, but I can't pin point it for you?

Last night a Canine, you may know ran about 260 kph in a 60 kph while eating a Merc AMX done up to the tits...
In situations where one can find oneself on youtube, or on camera while merging on a toll highway, this magic fix of yours would be WONDABA!
Thanks Hub

I am telling that canine to start slowing down...Up here it's a 10, 000 fine, and loss of license for a month and a street racing ticket that makes insurance impossible.

PHUCK

Mad love Hubs!

Chances are you fender eliminator is probably long enough that you can dremel it in half and fix a hinge on it for the cost of less than $2. You'll just need to get at it by hand or foot to flip it up.

Seno is right, by the time you realize the popo is behind you, he's probably already got your plate on camera. Now, if the main reason is to beat that nasty toll road camera, I'm all for it. Beats going through on one wheel. If you dig enough on the web you'll find plenty of good ones but it's just as easy (and much cheaper) to Frankenstein one at home.

I just tucked Isabella's up real tight. Used the stock light. Stand 30' feet back and on a level road it can be read and utilizes stock lighting. Legal. Already beat the ticket. Judge loved the plate too. She said she road a Harley. I kept making eye contact with her. ;)

The blinkers are hidden in them tail vents. Used the stockers and made a little bracket. No weird wiring. And holy shit that's a massive chicken strip! :)))
