What the F#%K?
08/30/16 6:50 PM

I don't know guys. I have been trying to sell my 2012 ZX14r for the last 3-4 months and I have had maybe two calls on it and only 1 guy came to look at it. I now have it for sale for 6500 which I think it more than fair. I know they are giving the new ones away but this is ridiculous! Does no one want these bikes anymore?

Unfortunately, seems like nothing depreciates like my wife's Jaguar or a used ZX-14 ..... Hopefully at this steal of a price you will get more interest.

Good Luck!

Sounds like a more than fair price. Put it on ebay, craigslist, cycle trader, other forums etc etc. I have had zero luck selling anything this year. It like nobody is even seeing my posts. I am trying to sell a really nice vulcan cruiser, best looking I have ever seen, but barely a nibble after several months of refreshing posts. So dont feel bad. My dad has a killer M109 cruiser and also had little luck getting it sold for a steal of a price.

To answer your question, yes they are giving them away. Saw new ones for less than 10.5k, but your price should still be in the ballpark.

No one wants them in the first place! We're a breed unto ourselves! The general sportbike riding public has always gone for 600s and 1000s. One good reason to not sell is that you can't get a good price. I doubt I would be able to get $3000 for mine with all mods included (and it has about 11k in mods in it). Runs great but has 47k miles. I love my junk heap! No reason to sell. Better to keep it in a shed and look at it.

Sometimes I worry I will come under financial/legal pressure to sell my bikes. I'm so glad nobody wants them!

I'll wager there are many riders of 'lesser' machines out there that don't know just how good the gen2 14 really is. Sure' it's no lightweight super sports machine but I know riders who have never ridden one and dismiss it as a large, lumbering, overweight motorcycle with only huge straight line speed going for it. Just put another 1200m on my 2012 at the weekend which took it over 27k miles so the resale value must be going down weekly but I really couldn't care less to be honest. JMO

It seems that the terrible state of the economy is in part to blame. It took me 6 months to sell my son's KLX140L. I ended up selling it on Cycle trader.

A lot of people think that the ZX14 is:
Too fast
Too heavy
Too uncomfortable
Not radical enough
For "Old People"
and a bunch of other silly reasons. Unfortunately you have to fight against the general lack of
real knowledge of how good the ZX functions as an everyday bike.
Their loss.

Well that makes me think I paid too much for my 2012... Paid 9k for it with 2440 miles on it :(

I put over 1000 miles on it this season, already put over 4k on the new bike. Still love the 14r but I just don't have the room in the garage. Even in stock form it is still super fast!

... and purely a drag racer, which most (all?) of us realize just isn't true: Sure you can drag race 'em. And you can canyon carve on 'em. And you can sport tour on 'em. Maybe it's too good?? So capable and configurable that it's boring?

Not me, of course. There's still no bike out there I'd swap for, regardless of price.

zx14rider345 ... I mean formerzx14rider345 ... Where are you posting the bike for sale? I'd have it on Craigslist since it's free (just deal with the losers, lowballers and looky-loo's that will come look at it, some wanting to test ride; just say no. Oh and don't state that in your listing, it's too negative and you'll sound like a rigid jerk. Just say maybe over the phone, or no when they get there, or at least wait until they arrive to make your judgment call. You can tell them you checked with your insurance and they said they would not cover the bike while it's on a test ride) ... but the real deal is cycletrader.com. I think guys realize (whether consciously or subconsciously) that you paid for that ad and therefore you and the bike are legit.

And if you can't sell it either of those ways, I'd stick it on eBay with no reserve ... it's a gamble but I just cannot imagine that it won't go for quite a bit over $6,500.

I would not count on it selling thru a forum like this one ... I think a huge majority of members will already have one, and that's the main reason people are here. So if it does sell thru a forum, I'd kinda expect the price to be lower.

I feel like you must just be missing your ZX14 buying audience.

I gave a little over $6K for my '07 nearly 6 years ago. Although I lust after lots of new bikes, this one runs like a striped ape with 60K on the clock. Can't get shit for it, so I might as well run it until it disintegrates. Insurance cost is the only downside I've encountered. I got a liability policy when I bought it and the money I've saved not buying full coverage has more than paid for the bike.

Buying new and selling not long after is always a losing proposition. The only way to come out is to keep it and rack lots of miles.

That's one way to do it if you have full coverage.

I have it on craigslist, ebay fees are to high even though I did list it twice. I also listed it on cycle trader twice. I agree about insurance, its outrageous on the 14r. I am paying 250 less for my new bike which is twice the insured value of the 14r. I took the 14r for a little ride tonight. Quiet as a sewing machine with the gigantic boat anchors back on! Still love it. I am not going lower than 6500. Guess I will have two bikes if it does not sell.

Looks like eBay's motorcycle fee is $125. Not bad if it sells for over $6,500

That is a fantastic price for a gen 2. At least I would have thought so...... but if it's not selling...... I guess these bikes lose value a lot faster than I thought they would

This is what most people see when they talk shit about the big ZX and what it is capable of. My Ass!

I find that this sentiment almost always works in the street. It's hard to ride a supersport/superbike hard enough to outperform the capabilities of the ZX-14R on the street. It's so smooth, composed and powerful that it takes a concerted effort to keep up with.

+1 to what Mad is saying

"A lot of people think that the ZX14 is:
Too fast
Too heavy
Too uncomfortable
Not radical enough
For "Old People"

but,

Too fast - depending upon how you control your right hand
Too heavy - relative. ZX14R is lighter than Connie or FJR1300, not even mention F6B
Too uncomfortable - Relative. Much more comfortable than GSXR1000
Not radical enough - This is true. H2R or FZ10 look more futuristic but I don't like those style.
For "Old People" - Totally true. Chrly, Hub, Danno and myself...all seem to be old fella

I love my ZX14R. I test-drove KTM Duke 1299 and bunch of Ducs but ZX14R is so much better that I can't even think of the next bike...unless Kawasaki releases a 300hp next gen ZX14R
