GP Shift
02/20/13 5:54 AM

Thinking of switching to GP shift on track bike having trouble getting my size 11's under the gearshift while in full tuck not really much adjustment with stock rearsets. Any benefits, or problems anyone noticed by doing so? I know that it takes some getting used to. Track season about to start and want to make the change now before it gets started. Thx

great question.

Can only see benefits to doing this x2 if you have a quickshifter.

Only thing, the forward heim joint with the splined shift shaft bracket ....it needs to be put on upside down of this picture to get GP shift. If you try this, you will see that the bracket will hit the kickstand bracket. I woulda gone GP on mine except I need a kickstand for the street..so no worky.

this is with Vortex rearsets. I believe you may be able to get GP shift with Satos but you need to order with the GP shift lever which will cost a few bucks more. You can convert between standard and GP shift levers on Satos. Youjust need to buy both levers. at least that is the way it I have it on my busa. I am sure it is the same with zX-14 Satos.

Looks like Vortex might work in up or down position from above pic but as you see here, I t most certainly won't.

Well ordered vortex rearsets for both, installed it on the 14 I see where the interference is. I broke off the kickstand spring peg and re routed the spring so the kickstand works as intended. GP shift is nice cruising around feels very natural, only problem was forgot one time and wondered why it wouldn't shift out of first. Basically got the hang of it though. Soon as the weather breaks enough to ride a few days a week to work I'm sure I'll get my mind programmed right. Works killer on the R6 though, easier to shift tucked and a lot more natural movement for downshifting while hard on the brakes. Now for the season opener Mar 10!!!

Thanks for the review. think i may go to GP shift on the busa. I guess it may be hard to ride two bikes with opposite shift patterns.

Yeah that's why I converted both of them at the same time less margin for error. Just can't wait for the weather to break been warm and raining or cold and sunny around here can't win.
