Should I Pull the Trigger --- just PULLED the Trigger :)
03/14/16 6:50 PM

Hi everybody,

Newbie here from VA. There is a dealer that has a 2015 green/black ABS bike for 11,299 OTD. I am really thinking of buying and upgrading from the 6R I have currently. The thing is I have only had the ZX-6R for six months and there is nothing wrong with it, per se. I just think I'd like the power and overall makeup of the 14R more. I ride in town and am on the highway a fair amount and this is where I feel like I'd like the 14 way more. Anyways, am I crazy to be thinking about this? I have the money and could pay cash for the bike but it's always a bummer to see that savings account go down alot haha. Anyways, would appreciate hearing from you all, even tho I know this is a biased group. By the way, info about me...37 single, riding for awhile now...have had lots of different bikes...nothing ever as powerful as the 14R. Closest was probably the FZ-09 I had for a year. Sold it as I didn't like the nakedness.

I believe you are probably right on that. The big torque and power are great for commuting and ordinary street riding and there's no need to mention the thrills in sport riding. It will be about as opposite from your 600 as you can get in a sport bike. You will probably not want to do big wheelies and quick maneuvers like you might on your smaller bike. If at all possible, I would keep both so you have all your bases covered. FYI, $11,300 driveout is a bit less than I paid for my 08 when new so that is a great deal.

Welcome, and I mean, welcome little darling. What should we do with you? We had our fling. Do we let it sit and have it depreciate or look at it as a lease, you pay a penalty, etc. It's out of here now, now now, the season is upon us and now is the time.
I feel like I'd like the 14 way more. Anyways, am I crazy to be thinking about this?

Not really. I wouldn't be on anything else. Bunch of low HP anything else and the king remains king.
I have the money and could pay cash for the bike

And what are you going to do with it if everything else is paid off? Life goes fast, now is the time to enjoy it. Single means bike first. No, she leaves. See? You don't have to go thru that headache someone else making a choice on you. Free is me.
even tho I know this is a biased group.

You mean bulletproof right out of the gate?

37 single... FZ-09 I had for a year.

So I'm twice as old as you, thought about that bike [for wheelies] till I hear the clutch can't take a drag racing beating and you wonder why the bias is pick a clutch pack we'll talk? As far as I know, that's one engineer short of a clutch design team.

Anyway, she's the one you go home to after those little flirts with the petite ones.

37, Well hotdamn, I hate to tell ya what's been haunting you is true. All the good women are over and done. All you have to look forward to is OurTime. It's bike time right now! I'd keep both bikes.

Thanks for the thoughts guys. Rook...wish I could keep both but have to choose 1. Can't afford both. That makes me think maybe I should just keep the 6...I can always buy a 14 in a few years. But this deal seems very good and hopefully the 14 will check off so many of my boxes I won't be picking up something new for 4 or 5 years. By the way which 2015 color is faster...all black or green/black mix :)? I think I am gonna pull the trigger. Life is too short right?

10900 out the door... Call me when you need to meet that bank loan at the end of the month. This way, you keep the 6, have the counter offer to sway you either way. Let the guy sit on a leftover for that price. He should pay you getting it off the floor.

Good call Hub. I'll write him and see if he goes for 10900. Will be sweet if he does.

For all the power beyond anyone's ability to use on the street anywhere you want to stay living, I will almost bet you will yearn for the high pitched wale of the 600 and it's forgiveness wen you throw it into a corner a little too hot. The 14 will have you in over your head if you're into that. Really if you're riding you're best without being a fool, you'll probably go as fast in the corners with either one but the 14 will hold you to it if you get just a little too foolhardy. You already have a steal but if you feel you can walk away, just offer the 10,900. I think you have at best a 40% chance of making a deal with that at this time of the year but if you can walk on it, go for it. You still have your 600. How much did you pay for it? think that into the picture. What do you give away to own a 14? I don't think you will come across too many deals like what you have in front of you right now but you still have another 10 years before you have to worry about passing on once in a lifetime stuff. Phuk, you can't loose no matter what you do.

Thanks Rook. I bought the 2015 6 (an ABS model) for $9599 OTD so it in itself was a steal. I don't push myself too hard with turns etc and twisties, so I don't know if I'll miss the 6 too much due to that. But you are right that I already have a good deal either way!

Hi there. I'd try to get a test ride on a 14. While it ain't no supersport, the big girl can run with most of them on the backroads, with a TON more comfort and power. You can almost forget about having to shift. I've been riding for years included 15 years of racing and this bike is, hands down, the BEST bike I've owned.

Sweet thanks Mad. I don't think I need to think about it anymore. Seems like I just need to get the 14R. Seems like a beast of a bike.

Yes, pull the trigger! Don't let life (or other bikes) pass you by!

I'd keep the zx6, drop the insurance and make it a track bike!

Prefect combo.

Keep the ZX-6R and find a nice used ZX-14 for 50% of that dealer's OTD price. Lots of them out there, that's how I got mine. Buy used and you can afford MORE bikes! It's always best to let someone else pay the depreciation off.

I test rode the yellow-black 60th anniversary 2016 R6 at Bike Week in Daytona this past Saturday: Pee wee bike! Good grief you have to run the piss outta that thing to get any kind of power out of it! And even in the 'power' band, man there's just not much there, comin' off the 14. There's just no comparison between the screaming R6 and the 14 which has power and torque everywhere. I did not expect that big of a difference. Caveat: the last 600 I've ridden was my 1994 Yamaha FZR600 ... back in 1994

jwh good advice. I just so happened to see a 2013 with 8500 miles selling for $8995. It has an undertail kit and M4 dual slip on pipes. I really would prefer the stock exhausts as I don't like too loud a sound. What do you guys think about this bike? I will say I love the color. The 2013 green looks awesome IMHO.

If I were you, I would opt for the brand new @ $11,299OTD. WTF, the price is insane!! There is an used bike shop near my house and they are selling an used ZX14R for $11,495+Tax (8.75%) + DOC.

https://www.jmmotorsports.com/vehicle.php?vehicleID=1515

And you are talking about 2015!! I paid way much more for my 2014 (no regret as I love the orange/black color). Good luck!

Buy what you want to buy. The great thing is having options. If you want used, buy used. If you wan't a '16 pay the 15k for a '16. If you want a '15 for 11k you got that option too.

And the sunburnt oranage is probably my favorite paint. When I picked up my '13, they'd just got one on the showroom floor.

It's not hard to come by an OEM exhaust. Lots of folks taking them off for aftermarket, you can likely find some practically new mufflers for nothing. My 2008 came with a beautiful set of CF Muzzy's slip-ons but they were WAY too loud for my tasks. The PO had the OEM exhaust which I put on and sold the Muzzy's.

$8995 for a low miles 2013 sounds like a deal. So you get the idea! ;-)

Bobby...I'm in Hampton Roads. The used 2013 sold so it's no longer an option. Do you guys think 12350 OTD is a good price for a 2015? This is with tax, tag, title and everything. I wasn't factoring that in earlier so It's another 1K over what I thought. I would sell the 6 and hope to get 7-8 for it.

VAslim16 - That's a very good price IMO. I bought my non-ABS '13 for $11,500 at Sport Cycles of Rockingham in NC, which was the best price I could find in the SE ... but then had to come home to FL and pay tax/tag/title.

If this one has ABS, even better price
