Need a local oil
07/29/13 9:14 AM

So AMSOILis my oil of choice, but I am out and I need to change my oil in the next 3 days. I'm still 300 miles below my interval, but I'm going on a trip to the Ozarks that will probably put about 1200 miles on. I usually do AMSOIL at 5k, and I don't really like the idea of being almost 1k over the interval.

What is the next best oil to use?

Try Shell Rotella T6 for your trip. if ya don't like it, dump it for the Amsoil when ya get back.

You think that T6 is good for 5k miles? Or should I just put the extra miles on the AMSOIL...?

Appreciate the opinions,

+1 also on the T6. I'd say its going to be fine for engine life for 5k miles. The only thing that might have me changing it earlier would be shift performance. I've read that some guys get degradation of shift feel in half that many miles, no matter what oil they run.

I changed my oil at 300mi with regular rotella t, 600mi with T6, 2600mi with amsoil; and am now at about 5400.

I will run the amsoil 5K miles or until the end of the season (whichever comes first). Then I'm likely to go back to the T6, just due to availability.

Oh, and I wouldn't worry about an extra thousand or so miles on the current oil; as long as shift feel is fine. Im sure if Kawasaki says you can go 7500 on their oil, going 6K on amsoil will be JUST FINE. I'd change it when you get back.

Caroobs, the Rotella T6 will be fine for 5k. +1 on going by the way it shifts. Rotella T6 is shifting smooth at 2k miles right now. And like I said before you can dump it for the Amsoil if you don't like it or just want the Amsoil when you get back. It's usually available around here and fairly inexpensive.

Motul 7100 if you can get your hands on it. T6 is available everywhere but I'd dump it after the trip and go back to your preference of oil when you returned.
