1000 miles and loving it
02/24/12 9:39 AM

I just hit the 1000 mile mark yesterday on the R. I'm loving every minute of it! I went from low mode to full * I learned to ride on this bike so I figured I'd start out on low* surprisingly I picked up about 5 Mpgs in average doing that and have seen the bikes current MPGs level out at around 48-50 mpg at cruising speeds. (50-60ish) all in all I'm extremely happy with the bike and the way it handles. I was worried starting out soo big would be tough but it has proved to be a gentle giant with anger problems with just a twist of the throttle.

I'm going to be looking into a few mods here shortly. Nothing big just simple things. Was wondering what opinions you guys had on two bros slip ons and akrapovics slip ons they will be releasing. Those two have caught my eye but being new to the bike world I'm not sure of the quality of things. I'm also going to look into doing HIDs from DDM and a radiator guard from cox for now, I've been told that they fit the 2012 but that's probably gonna be it for awhile.

I have noticed a sort of whistling noise when Rollin tho and I know its not the wind. It sound like its coming from the front wheels cause it seems as if something is rubbing with the rotation of the wheel. I'm gonna look more into this and see what it could be. But no other complaints besides the brakes being squeaky... But I heard stock pads do that anyway. Haha

Sounds like? 2 words. Begins with 'wipe off' out of the crate.

Pee Rep... Get a clean paper towel. Roll two corners up. Leave two corners alone. Write F and R so you have a wipe and a poke thru the holes.

One wipe across the black part or the ring of the disc, wipe that one time, so you have more to wipe but do not wipe the evidence off. Is it black looking? Decipher two colors: One is dust brown, the other is coating for transport across ocean kind of prep.

Send a rolled up corner. Do you see the same black in the holes of the discs? Then, they never cleaned the discs. That is the prep you paid for. Either the test ride out the crate embedded that coating and it is forever on those pads, or the brake break in did not take but I doubt it.

I'm going to assume the ass. That squeak usually turns out to be a poor wipe off. With some contact cleaner, you can spray and brake, meaning, you soak the discs with contact cleaner, it wipes the pad surface... Maybe = Lucky You ~ No more squeak!

Thanks hub! I just wonder if it's also because I didnt bed them in like I should have, being my first bike and learning to ride out in the neighborhood I couldn't really bed them in the best they could have been, could this also be a problem?

It could be a bed-in on your end, possibly? Still, that is a lot of stopping power even around the neighborhood. Once you can get out on a good run, break the tires in and all that, you can always try a good hard chop down on the front. But these are some powerful brakes, so have some speed-up to recover. Run it up to 80 and squeeze it back down to the speed limit. That kind of drill procedure. It's just a good bite down to put some heat in it, clear the squeak kind of cleaning.
