Tank Pad adhesives
06/14/13 4:38 PM

Has anyone used 3m emblem and trim adhesive? I want to replace my tank protector. Bought a tube of this but it says on the label that it can damage some paints and finishes. Was wondering if anyone used it before.

And your bike is a 2012/2013 zx14R?I can tell ya...the tank protector on there now is a HUGE pain to remove. It's taped on from the underside with 3M taping(the grey stuff). They definitely don't want anyone removing it.

Don't really want to do it again though.

I have a 2011. No stock tank pad. I wish I could get my hands on one. It's strong stuff. It would've held it on for a long time. Didn't damage the paint, however it's messy and hard to handle on a tank pad. It has to set for 12 hours, so I had to tape it down. The stuff is basically like plastic model glue. It was too hard to clean up the stuff that squeezed out around the edges and it just wasn't a clean job. I pulled it off and now have to scrape it off bit by bit with a plastic decal remover I suppose. GooGone didn't touch it and im afraid to use anything else. Live and learn I guess. At least I didn't mess up the paint.

I removed the badges on my VTX, was held on with the same $hit. I used a hair dryer, goo gone and WD40. No ill after effects. It took me about an hour to do one on each side of my tank and got a mean blister in the process. Picking off the lil pieces sucked butt, but it was worth it.

I keep kicking around the idea of swapping tank protectors as well, but it works and I cant see it when my junks on it anyway LOL

Can you attach a tank pad without actually not scratching the pad? Anyone?
