Insurance

Anybody have any particularly good or bad experiences with any insurance companies regarding cost or claims handline for the ZX-14?

I just signed up for a pretty comprehensive policy, after hearing about a $7800 repair cost for a fairly low speed crash here in the forums. If I go down, chances are it won't be at a low speed. I only had liability coverage before.

I wanted to get a policy online. Tried statefarm.com and couldn't find a way to get an online quote. Progressive was about $900 and Geico was about $700 for the same coverage, so I went with Geico. Hope I didn't make a mistake.

I would appreciate hearing any experiences or opinions of others regarding insurance companies for our machines.

Thanks. -bg

I had progressive full coverage on my 07 ninja ex650.

It was stolen. Almost exactly a month later they found the frame. If it had been like 2 days later, progressive would have settled but since it was before the 1 month mark, they had to do an "investigation". Another month goes by and they come up with numbers.. Leave me owing about $2000 on the bike. I argue with em, they try to refigure blah blah blah.. Nothing ever changes.

I took the hit, eventually paid off the rest before i was able to buy this bike. Basically, took them almost 3 months to pay on a loss. Not to mention i got screwed on their "fair market value" and i had been paying basically premium rates (about $150... a MONTH)

Boooo to progressive. I have state farm and i'm happy. I haven't had to make a claim yet though lol

Last time I checked State Farm had the best rates for the 14. They look at the cc's. With it being over 1300 they call it a touring bike instead of a sport bike!! But, I've been told, you have to have multiple vehicles with them to get the best rates. Like Plumber I've been with them for more years than I can remember. Probably 85 or 86 since I turned in a claim. They were great then???

BG it is hard to make an apples to apples comparison on insurance because there are soooooooooo many variables. Liability limits, comprehensive coverage limits, collision coverage limits, personal injury protection (PIP), emergency medical coverage limits, towing option, rental car option, deductible limits, etc. etc. If you got basic liability, comprehensive and collision for $700 a year, I'd say you got a great deal! Thats about $58 a month. I'm paying $37 a month at Geico for liability and comprehensive only....no collision. To get the same basic thing you got from Geico, they quoted me $3600 a year! I have had no accidents, over 25 (by a bunch LOL), had a few tickets but always took defensive driving which keeps it off your driving record so go figure. I'm not sure how they calculate all this out, makes absolutely zero sense. I'm thinking of dropping my coverage to mimimum liability only. The way I ride, if I crash, there's a very good chance that I won't be around to worry about it anyway.

I have State farm. $459 per year full coverage $500 deductible. A buddy just wrecked his bike, it was a 93 cbr600. He paid $900 for the bike. It was a wreck when he bought it. The 900 he paid was very generous. Well state farm could not find a value for the bike so they called the local dealerships to find out how much they would see a 93 CBR600. Mind you they have never seen the bike. The price they came up with was 2800-3200. State farm cut him a check for 2700.

Been doing some shopping around.
These guys guys have given me the lowest quote by far.
http://www.foremost.com/
$400 (liability) a year for 3 bikes and two riders. Progressive came back with the highest quote at $1600. Quite a difference!
Infact, I need to call those guys back and get the policy started.... got another ticket yesterday.... gotta get insurance gefore it hits my record.

There seems to be no rhyme or reason to the rates that insurance conmpanies charge. I'll hear about somebody getting a great deal over at "Brand X" Insurance Company, call them for a quote and it's about 10 times higher than what the other guy claims he got. If I was in a high risk group I could understand all this but I'm not so I buy my bikes cash and run the minimum coverage I can stand. Progressive charges me $240 a year for full coverage on my '04 VTX1300 but when I try to add the CBR or ZX they want a small fortune. You'd think the price would go down cause I can only ride one bike at a time. Go figure!

I'm 42 and I paid about 200-275$ for 12 months of State Farm. No tickets. Currently have two cars also insured by State Farm. Full coverage on bike except I declined the extra medical because I have good family health plan. I'm sure I could get minimum coverage for $175 or less/year.

im 31 with 0 points on driving record, no claims, 750 credit score. I have state farm without medical, full coverage and pay $440 a year for zx14 and 420 a year for R1. 1000 Deductible. You must have a car or house policy with them or they wont insure the bikes.. AllState laughed at me even thouhg I had policies through them, AAA wanted 6k a year, and progessive was about 1800 for the R1. I have progessive for 3 quads and trailer though because state farm doesnt insure them.

I recently was hit in the rear in my Escalade and State Farm took care of me well as you could expect a insurance company to do. I have no complaints with them. As long as State Farm keeps the cycle insurance cheap I will keep all my policies with them.

WOW! These are some really scary numbers for insurance. I'm 54, married no points/claims in dozens of years.

Through Progressive, full coverage
250K/500K liability
$250 Ded Comp
$1000 Ded Collision

$186 per year

I fix things till they can't be fixed.

A big part of insurance price is also location, location, location.

We just added another cycle to our insurance coverage and it appears for 4 cycles that the annual premium is $446.00....Liability on the Vmax(90) & Savage(96)....Liability & Comp/$500.00 deductible on ZX14(08)-$218.00/yr....And the latest addition is wife's 09 Can-Am Spyder: Liab/coll/comp/&500.00 deductible-$196.00/yr. Are agent is a Farmers Ins agent but he also writes coverage through Foremost, which is the coverage that we have. There must be a connection with Farmers and Foremost, I can't prove it but here a while back we had storms come through that produced hail damage and the next day I heard almost identical radio commericals for people with Farmers and Foremost to contact their agents to report damage. The only difference between the commericals was the names "Farmers" or "Foremost". Like stated above "Location, Location, & Location" and that the redbeard has plenty of gray it!!!
