I picked up a BMW S1000XR the first week of March. I have put almost 800 miles on it within that time and I have to say it is a super fun bike. You sit upright like your on a big dirt bike so it is very comfortable. All stock with 160hp. The best option on the bike is the shift assistant which allows for clutch less up shifts at any open throttle position and clutch less downshifts with the throttle closed. The bike has plenty of power and you really find yourself going to fast all the time and must be cognicant of your speed(like on the ZX14r). I was not sure at first about parking the ZX14R and going to the BMW but I am happy I did. I suggest if you are on the fence about switching from the 14r don't hesitate to demo ride one of these bikes. I will be pulling all of the aftermarket parts off of my ZX14r as it is up for sale in the classifieds as its not in the cards to own two bikes. Here are a few pics of the bike.

Congrats. Good luck on the sale. I would never let that 14r go but someone will get a killer machine.

I sat on one at the big mcy show in Chicago and it seemed very comfortable. A friend had a 1000RR for a while and said the high-frequency vibes made his hands numb after 100 miles or so. I'd be interested to know if that's an issue on the XR.

I have just sold my 2012 ZX14R and am shopping for a Sport-Adventure Touring bike like the Ducati Multistrada or the BMW S1000XR. I've been reading up on forums for both of these bikes, and each one comes with its own pros and cons. The BMW seems like it has the most pros and fewest cons. I am leaning towards the XR.

Your bike looks great zx14rider345!! The white sure looks sharp, I think I may prefer it to the red. If you have any more info or reviews to write about your XR, spill the beans...!! I'd love to hear them :)

Bradley, the comfort is what made the descision for me. Coming from the 14r I wanted performance as well and this bike delivers. Its fast and because you sit so high you find yourself going way to fast all the time. BMW does run promotions and the reason I bought in February was because they were throwing in Navi for free which is a $800 option that month. I also had them throw in the HP seat which is a little taller than stock which at 6'3" I wanted. Bike also come with a steering stabilizer which is hidden under the steering stem. Its so fun not having to slow down over speed bumps and being able to stand up straight while riding to stretch also makes riding more comfortable overall. ESA has three settings. Single rider, Single rider and luggage and two up. There is also a "road and dynamic" setting for the suspension. There are three rider modes: rain, road and dynamic. All different settings that change the mapping. The only Con is the vibration which I find is only noticeable at 70-75mph. I find it goes away the faster you go so it has to be RPM related. It also winds up pretty high at highway speeds. Indicated 80mph is about 6k on the tach. When you go in for your 600 mile service they unlock the rev-limiter from 9k for break in to 12k. There is also a plug that comes with the bike that plugs into the wiring harness by the seat which unlocks a 4th rider mode called dynamic pro. The dealer says they cannot connect it for liability but you can connect it(dealer shows you how)and that setting turns off TC completely and when you turn off ABS it is OFF. You can't install the plug until your 600 mile break in service is completed. Dynamic Pro mode also turns off your wheelie control completely. Go test drive a S1000XR. MPG is 35-38 so it does drink fuel like the 14r.

Zx14rider345 - thanks for the review, I'm glad to hear you're liking it. I'm like you in that I want to keep as much performance as possible but gain an upright riding position, factory cruise control, heated grips, better wind protection, etc. The XR delivers! I saw mention of the Navi 5 GPS being offered for free with the bike, I'll have to keep an eye out for future promotions.

All that said, I still really like the Multistrada...

[edit] darkarcher - the Verseys may be a decent enough bike, but it's not even in the same league as the others.

Bradley i like the multi as well but less options and more money. Also i hear nightmare stories about service interval costs. Dark archer i love mother kawasaki but the versys is not even close to the bmw in any categories especially performance. Bradley let me know how your search goes. I am almost done pulling everything off my zx14. Just have the exhaust, PC and ecu swap to do. It will be then sold bone stock.
