fixing a scratched fender
10/16/10 5:46 PM

Ok, so I scratched my front fender. How would I go about fixing it? I see paint from some color rite website. Sand it down and just apply the paint? Has anyone have any experience with repairing the plastics? The other panels I just bought new.

And what about painting some smooth panels to replace the foreman grills? How much paint would I need to repaint two smooth side panels and repairing a 2 inch by 1 inch scrap in the front fender.

Anyone have an idea?

To add to the question - I chipped a portion of my front fender - probably about a half inch vertical piece. It's not all that huge, but how does one go about making it look new again or am I looking at fender replacement?

Order the paint from color rite, pull the part and take it to a shop with the paint. The chipped fender will need to be replaced.

thanks buck, my problem being cheap is the cost for a 1/2 pint set is around $175. This is about the cost of a front fender in OEM parts. If a aerosol can works then its about half that price and maybe worth the effort on my part. I do have another gouge on the rear tail fairing also which I would like to fix. If it matters these scratches occurred from a unplanned contact with pavement at a blisteringly 3 mph so there is some depth to them.

I was wondering if anyone had done any repairs to the plastic and what they had used. I do have a cheap paint gun and a decent air compressor but have never used them for painting.
