I don't think Kawi will ever install a shaft drive in the ZX-14R since it robs HP, but wouldn't it be awesome to never have to lube and tighten the chain again?

Well sure ... but I don't want the high bars / vertical riding position, Kipass FOB thing, linked brakes, grandpa windshield ... and they don't make it in white :)
I want my exact bike but with the Concours' shaft drive.
I'm not too picky, no

I wouldn't want one for the reason you stated plus it's more weight. My chains never needed much adjusting once the sprockets and chain wore in together. I'm sure I've gone a thousand miles without lubing a couple times. I don't mind the chain adjusting and lubing anyway. It's would have to get pretty bad before I would be afraid to ride the bike. Heck, I spend a lot more time cleaning the bike than chain maintenance.

I'd just prefer one less thing to maintain ... well, one less thing to go wrong. One less thing to get dirty! Oh, and when heading out for a long tour, I'd prefer not having to bring a can o' lube along. And tools to adjust the chain.
I guess that makes me not a true rider! Which is fine. I don't have a problem with that title.

I'm sure with enough money and motivation you could probably transplant an engine or at least the transmission into the zx14. :)
I'm with ZX14R, my next motorcycle will be shaft driven as I'd rather spend more time with my family or riding (or eventually both at the same time :D ) than cleaning and oiling a chain.

Have a Connie. Love the shaft drive. But if you want rip your face off acceleration, chain is the way to go.
Buy a Connie, and buy a turbo. If you're like me and can't afford it, lube your chain and deal with it.
Yeah, a turbo is cheaper than a ZX14, but two bikes are better than one.
The rear wheel stays clean too. Just love my Connie. But
I still need to rip my face off from time to time.
Hence the Zed X 14R. Wicked awesome!

I don't really understand. It takes me about 15 minutes to clean and lube the chain.
Wash the bike
Go for a ride (to dry the bike, and this is my nights ride)
Come home
The following usually takes about 15-20 minutes at most
raise the bike on my abba stand
Heavily lube the chain with 80-90w
wipe off (excess oil flushes debris, cleans/lubes at the same time)
clean rims (just easier to do on a stand...so raising it is worth it just to do this)
lower it
Even with a shaft drive, I'd still most likely have to ride the bike to dry it and raise it on the stand to clean the wheels.
