Starting Issue

I have an 09 ZX 14. For a while now, when I hit the starter there is a hesitation before the starter kicks in. Yesterday I hit the starter and the motor started to turn over, then stopped, then the fuel pump ran again as if I had turned the key off and on, then the motor turned over. I shut it down and tried to start again, and worked fine that time. Any ideas???

Is this the battery that came with the bike? Maybe getting soft.

My 09 battery is getting a little worn.Going to change it over the winter.

I put a new battery in about a month ago. Checked terminals and connectors. All look good. This issue has been going on for at least 7 months. Unfortunately the dealer down where I bought the bike sucks and I won't bring the bike in to them.

I had a similar problem on my ’08, turned out to be the neutral lamp and gear position sensor that was the culprit.
I cleaned it and has been ok since. Also, sometimes when the starter motor stopped turning, the neutral lamp would flicker.
