Anyone seen these?Well...I bought a set.Aircraft engine heaters.Keeps the oil nice and fluid for startups.100Watts each.Goes on the block or oil pan or wherever you want to keep things warm.Epoxy's on.4" by 1 and a half inch. Will keep the whole engine warm during these freezing deals we get here.Warms to 150 degrees..has a cutoff capability so it won't overheat anything.

Those have been around since I was a kid. They work really well.

Do you winterize yours and let it sit on the charger over the winter, or just go out and start it a couple times a week and let it idle a while?

If you winterize, you don't need that stuff.

Glad I don't have to winterize here in the Lonestar State!!! Winter here is parking the bike for maybe few weeks during late Dec thru Jan... No block heaters, grip warmers, heated underwear needed!

I lived in both Neb/Coldeeradio is about it; not satellite dishes or phones with internet and a camera/recorder in it. I rode in the snow. A 2-storke no less. Never failed mechanically. Never failed to start. Old 1920's cars. Keep adding the decades, no manufacturer offered an optional heat your oil dipstick? That was more military ready is hammer the planes up as fast as you can, right?; Ready on a daily basis ready 24/7.

After that idea, out come the elixirs. Show me you holding back 50 psi on a syrup basics, a split second more cranking is not going to kill the engine. An engine wears under hours of wear, not start me up I'm lubed with a layer around me [parts] already. And yeah, have Privvy go read a military auto manual, where it explained way back in the 1950's how oil can lube with a film, a millionth of an inch is that layer.

No matter how you look at it, she is not making metal to metal contact if there is a layer of something in the middle, yes or no?

No privateer...I do not start the engine.Running for a few minutes is bad news.Even bringing it up to temps(then shutting off) isn't that good when there's lots of moisture in the air.The heater is an accessory.Mainly for keeping the oil warm...and condensation out. When she's put to bed....that'll be it.No starting, nothing.Come riding weather...she'll circulate much better than cold thick oil. That's all.(it'll still be 30 degrees out,but the roads will be rideable).

I'm not completely sure I'm gonna install them on there...maybe just one.IDK.We'll see.Hub thinks it's unnecessary.Maybe.Doesn't matter...my bike.IF he lived here...he'd be considering something along these lines as well.Riding in the freeze or not.2,3 months of FROZEN temps and FROZEN engines....I don't think it can hurt.Did I mention...I LOVE my bike.

My garage is NOT heated. It gets FREEZING in there. We're talking ICE freezing.Which of course,means....thin layers of oil FREEZE as well. And o-rings.Stuff like that.Just a 'precaution'...that's all they are.No harm no foul.Necessary?Probably not....but who cares really. My 07 engine got VERY stiff in the Winter. And at first start up....lots of condensation was coming from the oil.I'm just naive enough to believe that the most wear occurs at startup.Regardless of 'how long it takes to circulate'.Or...a thin layer of ice/oil mix.Down in the bearings, oil passages...you know...all that non-essential stuff

Heating the engine casing will introduce moisture. Sorry you misunderstand.

The purpose of those heat plates is to keep things like turbines from freezing stuck, and so forth.

The reason for heaters for engines is to keep the oil warm so it will start in the morning.

Putting them on and leaving the heat on over the cold winter will fill your crankcase up with water.
