Sandy
11/01/12 8:41 AM

Hope the folks living in coastal areas of the tri state listened to the warnings and evacuated
I myself downplayed the storm, I lucked out I was mandated to report to work Sunday morning
I'm in the coastal area of staten island on the 2nd floor in one of the very few 2 story structures in this neighborhood, the water peaked just 4 steps below my floor, obviously anything below me was erased
Came home last night from work, can't believe the devastation!!!
Hope all made it through

Hey LEO

Glad Your OK...I had friends in South Beach and Midland Beach have there houses completly destroyed when the 8ft wall of water came.

Breezy Point looks like Hiroshma...I had friends there that lost everything.

I myself just had power restored here in Annadale this evening, I was living in the dark since Monday night at 8pm ....after seeing and hearing about all the people who lost there homes I feel really lucky to have just lost power.

Homeowners insurance is going to be paying in a big way now for months to come.....hope everyone learns a lesson here not to build your home on the beach...a tidal wave or a hurricane can wipe you out in a few minutes....

All of us here in Florida deal with these hurricanes every year..some are worse than others...Louisiana, Texas, Mississippi, and Alabama have been hit years on end.....everyone has to rebuild or move closer inland for it to not happen again....

We hope you guys recover, but please move closer inland......you can get by with it for many years...then all of a sudden something like Sandy comes along to really get your attention....

At least the home insurance companies are, on the whole, flush with cash. They've had a few easy years with no major claim loads on any of the big insurance companies.

Thanks Leo I was down in Midland Beach area today its a WAR ZONE down there....HumVees's all over the place with airforce personel in them. Sanitation trucks 4 at a time on some blocks just clearing huge piles of garbage off the streets.Payloaders and dump trucks rolling every direction.
RedCross rolling around handing out food...the damage is unbelivable! I was also in the Tottenville section of SI this evening and they are in the same boat as south beach & Midland beach....Houses just washed out to sea...boats all over peoples lawns.
Makes ME Feel Truly Blessed that all we lost was power.

At least the home insurance companies are, on the whole, flush with cash. They've had a few easy years with no major claim loads on any of the big insurance companies.

It's flood damage. If there's no flood insurance on the property, then all of the insured that dont have... dont get a pay-out. It's a standard exclusion in most (if not all) modern home insurance contracts. Only the Feds offer flood insurance.

Yeah, it's sad. Most have lost everything and likely wont get any insurance payout.
