I've heard a number of theories.. but no solid answer.
best answer we could come up with:
I had the solenoid inside my airbox. Well, lets be honest the airbox is a VERY hot place. I was also using a progressive controller.
The theory is, it was so hot inside the airbox that the plunger on the solenoid became compromised. when the progressive controller pulsed (basically cycled the solenoid on/off, very very quickly) the plunger was not strong enough to hold up to the abuse.
I've relocated the solenoid outside of the airbox and took the progressive controller off. Hey, if you can't figure out which is the problem, get rid of both right?? Hehehe
