DAN? Does the oil pressure light go right out or hang there and you hear a tick? Because once that light is out, I don't know? We have pressure huston?

There are too many non OEM oil filters out there. Too many years that bikes have had all sorts of time to hear some tick happen? Why all of a sudden now? See what I'm saying? I'm also saying, gotta run a base setting so if you are not OEM compliant... Play his variable. Then, you are one up on his or he was in the trenches knowing that trick is to stay OEM or begin to have problems.
And isn't that the case all the time mostly? Stray away from stock?

There's nothing wrong with the oil and filter you're using. The guy at the dealer is just trying to make a sale and a repeat cuatomer.

Have you put any fuel injector/system cleaner you did say the bike was sitting for a while and I know when these big fuel injectors get dirty they will tick and that would explain the smoke at start up by the way is the smoke white or blue?

Interesting question Danozx14. It would be interesting to give the mechanics suggestion a try and see if it will work. I can see how the quality of the valve material could restrict flow and maintain pressure. This back pressure may help keep oil in the top end. The fact that the mechanic directed his question to the oil and filter right away leads one to believe that this is not his first rabbit hunt and he has seen this problem before. It may be a defective filter (there has to be a dud in production every once ina while)
I would give it a try. Unlike other possible solutions it is one that your friend will at least get good use out of.

How to tell too much oil?
08/03/12 6:04 PM
Hub:
I had the 1st oil change done by the dealer.
He had it out on a level ramp when I picked it up after he finished.
I checked the oil level by balancing the cycle up on the tires and eyeballed the spirit level. There was too much oil indicated...
I complained, and the service manager scratched his head after he checked it himself. He put it back up on the lift and re-checked. Then, he declared that it was not over-filled while on the service lift, and then said that's the way it should be.
I decided not to argue, but every time I eyeball the spirit level, it looks over-filled to me while parked on the pavement.
Who's right?
Thanks...

Oh. I missed that bit of drama...
I'll start a new thread for opening this question...
Thanks.
