ANYBODY have something they liked better on the older zx14 than the new 14r?
12/21/12 10:15 AM

the only thing i like better on my 09 is the seat seemed more comfy on long trips and i think the gas gauge was more accurate on my 09 other than that i like my 14r better in every way. after i got rid of those crappy m5 metzlers and put on the 2ct's handles so much better, also the body work was soo much easier to get off than the new one!

Nada. My bike is in full power everytime I start the bike. Now the traction control I have to turn off if I so choose. No big deal. My favorite bike ever, and god knows I've had my share. Awesome machine.

The color choices have always been questionable. But that is all I know as this is my first 14.

Hey Speedyme
How did you find the change over to the 2CT's. This will be my next change to my 14R. I really don't like the B'Stones that come standard here in OZ. I was looking at some Road 2's as well but thought the 2CT's would suit it better. Handling is my greatest issue with this new beast. I hate the way it oversteers on the "factory" tyres. Your thoughts mate??
Cheers

i read so much good about them i tryed them years ago on my 1000rr and my last zx14 and loved them , anyway i gave the m5's a chance and after 1000 miles a couldnt stand them any longer so i put them on my new 14r it handles soo much better, i know its hard to take off tires that still have alot of tread on them but i just did it. its worth it!

Weight, wheelbase and pipes. That being said the older pipes would be way uglier if they were on the new models.

I owned a completely modded 2006. The 2012 is perfect, I can't think of anything I would make different. If there was one thing, it would be the issues with lower gearing changes. The bike is really nice with stock gearing, I think I will leave it alone since I'm not extending this swingarm.

Love the 2012...miss the paid off 2006.

I didn't succumb to the ZX14R sirens (I mean the wicked females, not the POlice) but instead changed direction and went with a 2012 Concours 14 more suited to the kind of riding / trips I am doing now.

I too miss having a paid off bike, it was nice not having payments.

I miss the external helmet lock that I had on the '08. Gotta take the banana seat off now to lock my helmet up.

Really? I wonder why they would get rid of something useful like that.

twas said: I miss the external helmet lock that I had on the '08. Gotta take the banana seat off now to lock my helmet up.

Get one of these:

I really like mine. Fits around the straight rail under the seat. also got the cable for it and can wire up my jacket etc with the helmet. Sure its not un-defeatable (sic) with a good pair of wire cutters, but its a deterrent.

Of course you could just get a wire or plate metal extension for the hooks under the seat, but you know that.

^^^^ Ironic, I was looking at one of those a couple of hours earlier. Could you post pics of the jacket-helmet set up. If it works well, I'll be able to take the bike when I go jogging downtown.

Silver 07 is not as visible to LEO's.The 20"s-meg has a sound like nothing else, on a fly by it was able to cure constipation,or so I was told. After 5 seasons with the 07 she's like an old friend, only one season on the 2012 is not enough, besides a good parent does not show favouritism to one child over the other.Hurry up spring the kids need a beating

Sorry got no pix of it in operation and the bike finally got put up on stands and undercover for the winter coupla weeks ago! Everything is packed away and I am just beginning to defeat the withdrawal symptoms that inevitably arise. Got a coupla extra weeks riding this last December over the usual storage time; so now I can re-adjust to putting miles on the little Buick. Until the salt is washed away, no pavement beneath my Ninja.

However, the process is simple: Hook lock over under seat rail, hook helmet strap and one loop end of the lock companion cable on the open lock , run cable thru one arm of jacket and attach that free end cable loop back over helmet hook, close latch on hook and spin the tumblers, drape jacket across helmet where it hangs from the under seat rail and across the seat. Jacket keeps helmet out of sun and seat cool until you return.

My helmet is worth a lot more than my jacket and the jacket covers the helmet from easy view; so an opportunist thief sees a cheap mc jacket and not the Shoei; hopefully not as attractive as the helmet might be sitting there reflecting rays. But who can figure thief's motivation anyway??
