Too many R's that shift fine. May come to the same frame run if nothing more than a waiting game. If the 3-4 guy has the same problem, none of you are mentioning any shifting out of gear or the 3-4 guy's symptoms. It may be anything if that took a redesign like the R has taken.

Hopefully, yea. Nothing worse than having a some hack open up your brand new motor and hope he doesn't create even more problems. Feel bad for the guy though, that would suck.

@Hub: Agreement.

My clairvoyance tells me a bad bearing on either the main or counter shaft is the culprit.

If the gen2R is moving along for next year's model... Count me out. Well, I did have a rack for reassembly. I may have to keep bulletproof for another year. Now, where was that tire thread with the long lasting rubber ride?

Good luck fellas! Let me know? I'll be on sally on the interUmmmmmmm?? That means a screaming deal with a tranny rebuild kit that comes with a leftover.

Where is the 3-4 guy? He can give a better account as to where this thing begins to act up. I would have to point out that it is his 3-4 scenario, no other throws. So, the bearings have to move with the shift? Those bearings are running fine for 1-N-2/5-6 gears. See what I'm saying?

That drum troth or guide channel or that slot in the road cut of the drum. I'll call that the trouble maker, if it is only 3-4 going up. No power loads going down as much, right? Drum revision? I take a clairvoyain'that either, shit! It was so obvious!

One of those.

And too, is this the same guy over at assisted site? Then, if these are two bikes with shift scenarios, how close are the frame/engine numbers? Could be a production run of soft forks? Something like that too. You would think the channel run back and forth would have to line up for that fork to travel forward or reverse order. Too many gear and shift parts to narrow down to.

That is why this is more a field fix. They get the field rep to check things out, they can solve that field fix. So, is this sea water in the fork mixing?

I should have specified... I was trying to predict the root (haha Cody) cause of the failure on the link at top.
I wish he... the OP... would have given more specifics regarding what he heard/felt. He left me with the impression the failure was sudden.
That's why I wanna blame a shattered needle bearing.

No, I think we were having a continuing conversation, then all of a sudden the thread... Did one of those; Cody exposures with the cheap raincoat flashings.

Uncommon failure at 150 miles. Bad luck? Far too many 14R's out there to have a '11 10R engine type problem. I was worried, but now I'm not.

Ah, the internet guessing. Here I'm thinking main or countershaft bearings. It looks like there is a roller gear with needle bearing, but it looks more like 1st gear? 5th gear is the slider that goes into 1st.

http://www.partshark.com/fiche_section_detail.asp?section=905995&category=Motorcycles&make=KAWASAKI&year=2008&fveh=24901 I'm using first gen parts. Can't seem to load the later models yet?

I stared at my shop manual some more (page 9-45)... 1st gear on the counter shaft is the only one supported by needles. The remainder of all the
un-splined gears are supported on bushings. I'm going to retract my needle bearing suspicions. Shift drum/forks or a broken circlip on either of the shafts (haha Cody) makes a better fit at this time.

"Where is the 3-4 guy?"...geez HUB...still can't get it right. It was 4th to 3rd ya lamebrain .4th to 3rd.it was NEVER 3rd to 4th 'shifting issues' with that guy.He made it point to rag on my questions about what exactly he meant....fried his brain....hope his fuckin bike blew up to tell ya the truth..asshat.

I was just pointing out the guy was having shifting problems and everyone here said he can't shift a motorcycle, turns out he had a defective shifting mechanism.

Not into trying to take sides, sorry if it seemed that way.

"everyone here said he can't shift a motorcycle"...no...everyone here did NOT say he 'can't shift a motorcycle".

Listen...if I'm a pilot...and I've been flying for umpteen years...and I go to get my rating checked as they all have to do periodically...IF my check-out guy advises me on some area of what I'm doing...is he telling me I don't know how to fly? This aint no different.Motero came here asking about the 4th to 3rd shift action..that was ALL he was focusing on..and that was all I was focusing on.If you read my comments...they were clearly focused on HIS description...NOT on his ability to ride or shift.I tried to get him to narrow down what he was saying about it.He turned it into what you said...something personal.I NEVER questioned his ability to shift. In fact...I offered a vid of MY bike and shifting as he said he was.Mine didn't clunk as he said his was. That was all.My 'lecture' as he called it...wasn't a lecture at all.It was a description of MY shifting experience(s)...MINE...not anyone else's.

I've missed shifts...naturally.If someone thinks I have a problem with WHY I'm missing certain shifts...if I do...I'm all ears.I WANT to learn if I need to.A guy explaining his own experiences to me doesn't offend me one bit...maybe I might see what I'm doing or not doing...and change something.I had NO idea Motero was so sensitive to other's comments.I've never dissed anyone for what they were doing or whatever...ever.Only Hub....he's the only one I've done that with..and most of that is in fun anyway...I'm not trying to hurt Hub's feelings.

I saw exactly what Motero was talking about AFTER he actually restated his situation...about HOW he was doing his shift from 4th to 3d.That's exactly what I was trying at the beginning to get clear. Then someone else posts up about 3rd to 4th...and starts going on with that when the OP was talking about his DOWNSHIFTING.That person is STILL getting the topic WRONG...STILL.And STILL trying to put HIS confusion about the actual topic on someone else....again..as usual. There's all kinds of ways to shift these bikes. And one style of shifting may not work so well for another guy.If I tweak my shifting style ever so slightly for any particular shift...I CAN get a totally different outcome. That's ALL I was trying to make clear.NOT critcize Motero...as he interpreted it.Besides..I offered an apology to him anyway(which I didn't need to do...he's the one that got pissed)....he didn't want to accept it...okay...fine....

How many times have any of us gone to a dealer for some situation with our bikes and the dealer said..."uhm...okay....I'll check it out"....and that was that.No questions...no asking particulars...just..."okay,I'll check it out"?Think that dealer mechanic sounds 'interested' in actually fixing your bike? Not to me he wouldn't.The more info a guy can get...the more he has to work with...."clunk into 3rd from 4th"...wtf does THAT mean?ANY zx14 will CLUNK into ANY gear if you shift it a certain way.THAT doesn't solve ANY question. In fact..if you go to a dealer and tell him that..there's a dam good chance..he's gonna come back and say..."Yup...she's clunkin alright...we found a serious problem with yer this or that...yup...you need a NEW....whatever".Hopefully guys posting up here will be open enough when they ask something to lay aside the personal deals...and actually TRY to get what's being offered...as long as what's being offered isn't some BS mumbo-jumbo that won't help anyone.OR...take it to their mechanic/dealer...sound ignorant...ask no questions...offer no details..and get shafted(possibly). And come away with THAT experience thinking.."that fuckin asshole dealer....he didn't fix shit".Several hundred dollars(or more) lighter as well.

You offered an apology, and I didnt accept.?? My acceptance was not rising to your bait, id still like to see your apology, all I see is you unprovoked hoping my bike fuking blew up, what gives asshat? How bout I blow you fuking up? Although your ego is already as big as your mouth, if you ride as good as you bitch ill be impressed.

And it aint just 4-3, and I didnt specify what I was taking it to the dealer for. And I aint getting into this song and dance routine with you.

But im mighty obliged you shared how you change gear with me, if yo have any desire to share anything else please go ahead, but could you start it under a specific thread title, as my brain is as slow as my gear change and I cant keep up,...or down
Yes im being a smart ass, but calling me names and hopingmy bike blows up, well frankly greenhorn, thats just childish, I find sticking tomthe topic normally helps keep things in perspective.

"everyone here said he can't shift a motorcycle"...no...everyone here did NOT say he 'can't shift a motorcycle".
Guilty. I agreed with someone that the gears look the same, not a problem with the first gen. Not a problem with the release of the new R... Until more than one transmission shows up with a possible R-transcenario. With more data coming forward from the field, and from two different countries, well IDK, thinks have changed. The new model may not be 'diside of bulletproof.' Interesting how just out of the box or a few more miles, something sounds like something is up.

Listen...In fact...I offered a vid of MY bike and shifting as he said he was.Mine didn't clunk as he said his was. That was all.My 'lecture' as he called it...wasn't a lecture at all.It was a description of MY shifting experience(s)...MINE...not anyone else's.
Your bike does not have that certain 'duplication' so how would you know, it is now 2 bikes with a trans issue and yours is without issue. I'm made sure I was talking to a rider, not a, 'Lot rot rider/garage find of the Joe-A.'

I had NO idea Motero was so sensitive to other's comments.
I don't think he was sensitive. He threw in a few good ones. I was laughing. Maybe you didn't recognize the GAS'do it.

That's exactly what I was trying at the beginning to get clear.
Clear what? I see a smoke screen in front of me.

Then someone else posts up about 3rd to 4th...and starts going on with that when the OP was talking about his DOWNSHIFTING.
I was trying to duplicate any 3-4-4-3 pattern to know if it is in one direction or the other? This is out of my league, it's all yours, greenie. Sounds like 2 bikes to me. So, you go on about what it is, you have a gearbox under you like you have a mode switch and a puddle under you and can I get a skid? Well, driveway layer did lay some stones on someone else is we sorta get what a shift is to you is a mode switch in your grasp? We dare yet?

That person is STILL getting the topic WRONG...STILL.And STILL trying to put HIS confusion about the actual topic on someone else....again..as usual.
Dude! It is the abstract one brings in. I bring in a missing part. You bring in a bent part out of a fart was from your ass, right? I'm just ass king oh king of the bent toes. Shift dis one now. Oh here it comes!

There's all kinds of ways to shift these bikes. And one style of shifting may not work so well for another guy.If I tweak my shifting style ever so slightly for any particular shift...I CAN get a totally different outcome. That's ALL I was trying to make clear.NOT critcize Motero...as he interpreted it.Besides..I offered an apology to him anyway(which I didn't need to do...he's the one that got pissed)....he didn't want to accept it...okay...fine...
Man, if you can smooth out any transmission, I think the same parts have been in there since... I've been riding say and that is oooooooold. How do you tweak a style if you already found the smooth? Remember, I don't have rear brake problems, I do not use them. Now, you are going to tell me about some style to smooth it out some? How you going to improve my smooth, greenie? Tell me. NOT one day on a race track, you are going to go tell someone how to shift, let alone leave the gate. Riiiiiiiight, I'll listen to you, guy. When I go deaf is when.

The more info a guy can get...the more he has to work with...."clunk into 3rd from 4th"...wtf does THAT mean?
It means guy, the OP and I were field fixing something we have no control over. Every 14 I hear go into first gear has clunked. Apparently, you say your bike never or hardly or does clunk, you'll change that from 'never clunks' and most likely it clunks like the rest going into gear.

ANY zx14 will CLUNK into ANY gear if you shift it a certain way.
Except yours is I'd like to find that quote that your R never clunks... And now if you say yours now clunks, how credible are you, Cody looking wannabee?

Grennie, you didn't! How all of a sudden did you take another person's bike problem, well, personal? You hope his cotter pin does not fit?

How bout I blow you fuking up? Although your ego is already as big as your mouth, if you ride as good as you bitch ill be impressed.
Shit, I'll buy your ticket to see that when I buy mine.

And it aint just 4-3, and I didnt specify what I was taking it to the dealer for. And I aint getting into this song and dance routine with you.
He meant, that it sounds like you distorted something again that was spoken in the specific. I and the OP have been communicating with you about leaving the ego at the door? "my paint job is faster than your paint job' is jut a post away. I think that is where you need to play? Or ask questions you come to some tranny/brake/bent axle/cotter pinning down some Q's.
