Fork springs
03/17/13 12:25 PM

I finally got around to changing my fork oil. I bought my 09 with about 7,500 miles with no history from PO's since I got it from a dealer. Have no idea when the last time the oil's been changed, if ever, and I've been waiting to do any supsension adjustments until I had fresh oil.

So I start recording all my initial settings before opening up my compression and rebound and I discover both of them have more clicks total than the manual states. My compression valve has a range 17 click instead of the 14 per the manual and rebound has 15 instead of stock 11 so I'm guessing they're not stock. Here's a couple of pics. Not sure what stock adjusters should look like.

I've been wondering if I had aftermarket springs since the bike has never felt undersprung to me even though I'm 240 or so and have 6 lines showing on my preload. I took a break before disassembling the forks or draining any oil. Anybody know how to identify stock versus aftermarket components or if it will adjust the height of oil I need?

Oil level should stay the same regardless of the internals, however i would be working from the actual oil level in the fork rather than a set measured amount, that will keep the air gap the same.

After disassembly and draining figured out my forks all bone stock, so no worries. Filled up to the 88mm level the FSM spec'd and good to go.
