headlift adaptor

Got a newbie question here. I am getting ready to order a set of GPI stands and their race set has a headlift adapter. What exactly is that? Does it just raise the front a little higher and what are the advantages? Thanks!

They lift from the steering head and not the fork legs. It will have a pin that inserts and lifts from under the bottom fork crown. The will allow fork removal while on the stands where the fork lifts will not.

Make sure you get the pin for your bike. I have a front pin stand too, and it came with a universal which didn't fit the ZX14 very well. So I had to order the pin for the ZX14.

Mine spent all last winter up on front and rear stands.

+1 If the bikes going to sitting for extended period of time thats good for the tires.

If you order the fork lift stand you won't need to worry about a pin.

If you order a headlift stand make sure to get a pin that fits the 14. I can't remember which one it is, but the company can get you the right one.

Exactly. Both kinds are called front pit stands. One kind lifts the bottom of the fork where the front axle is. Cannot take the tire off with that. The other kind is a pin lift. The pin inserts in the bottom of the steering stem tube, and that pin needs to be correct for the bike you lifting, or you could damage your steering stem tube and bearings.

So yes, if you get a pin lift, you HAVE to get the ZX14 pin for it. I'm sure idiots have lifted a ZX14 with a pin stand with the standard (default) pin in it, but that is asking for big, expensive, problems.
