Have any of you guys considered an auto chain oiler? Maybe not the most 'street cred' accessory for your bike agreed but IMO, has to be one of the most useful accessories out there. I've had one on my last few bikes and refit it to a new bike if/when I change. I really can't recommend one highly enough. It's certainly true that if they're badly fitted and/or adjusted you get lots of fling-off all over the rear of the bike but once finely tuned there's minimal oil wastage. You can buy the 'special' oils for these but I just use 90W gearbox oil and find it excellent and cheap! I sort of fell out with the canned lubes year ago. For me the big pluses of an auto oiler are:

1. You have sufficient lubrication ALL the time and not just for a relatively short period after application of canned stuff.
2. Any fling off can be washed off with hot soapy water unlike some canned lubes which seem to harden and require solvent removal.
3. 90 weight oil doesn't seem to attract dirt and grit like some of the really sticky chain lubes.
4. Maintenance is MINIMAL and comes down to just wiping the chain down with a paraffin soaked rag now and again. I do all my own maintenance and enjoy working on the bike but find chain cleaning and lubing a chore, I'm sure most people do if they're honest!

Don't think I'll ever buy a can of chain lube for a road bike again. JMO

I have a Chaintec oiler. Must be 10-15 years old now. Not sure if they even make them anymore but there are others out there. It doesn't use engine vacuum like some. Runs on 12v supply, comes on with the ignition and has a motion sensor which stops oil flow when you're at the lights or stood in traffic etc. I fitted a dual feed nozzle to lube both sides of the chain. You can buy them but, personally, I couldn't see £25 in a couple of bits of plastic tube so I made one up.

I looked around the web some, and these Chaintec are apparently un-obtainium now. No longer made or sold.

The last link I looked at wrote they were available thru Hein Gericke distribution (German, I think). I looked there last. No luck...

Hopefully, for those who want one, the Scottoiler will work for them. It was the model / brand that cave the most hits on an automatic chain oiler search.

I have some really good chain wax, a great "dry" chain cleaner, a chain brush, some other stuff left over from when I had a ZX14.

I never even used the chain cleaner, got it 3 months before I traded it in on a C14....

My C14 has a shaft, I no longer need this stuff.

If someone wants to PayPal me $15 to cover USPS flat rate box (US domestic) I'd be glad to send it along. The stuff is worth a lot more than shipping cost and just going to waste right now.

chain wax stays on the best IMHO
I use a grunge brush for cleaning.

I notmaly get 40k plus miles from a chain..
I imagine a 14 can stretch a chain fairly quick

Yeah the chain wax stays on, however i'm not sure if it was just the brand that I was using but I was noticing that pulling away from a stop I was getting some funky noises from my chain so I decided to do as the manual directs... use motor oil and the noise went away!

Its messy, more so if you put too much on (it'll leave a oil spot where you park your bike) but so far it works quite well...
