gear display problems
04/17/12 8:08 PM

I just installed and adjusted a speedodpd and it worked good I have the proper speed showing now but since the gear display will move up the gears but after a few seconds it will display the next lower gear. I checked the gear position sending connection in case I loosened it during installation and it is clean and tight. Does anyone have any idea about what could be the problem and what can be done about it. Thanks for any help.

Hub if I understand you right remove the cover over the chain and remove the switch cover slip it into 6th gear and pull the pin and then ride. If I am misunderstanding your directions please correct me.

First I should have mentioned that the bike is zx14 , second it was speedodrd sorry. Hook up is simple unplug the speed sensor connection plug the sensor into the speedodrd and the lead coming from the speedodrd into the other connection. I have only seen the pictures from the manual I haven't taken it apart yet. I would like for it to work proper but my vmax (nor any of my other bike for that matter ) had a gear display so it isn't that important but it is on the bike I would like it to work proper. Maybe I will get a chance to look at it this weekend. Thank you for your reply and help.

Have a SpeedoHealer v4 in mine and no problems. Except with water getting in the connectors one time. It connects inline to the speed sensor wire conecters.

Sounds like the same sort of hook up. I once had a problem with water getting in those connectors and it made the speedo go crazy and shut off. Seemed to clear itself after I shut it down and turned the key back on. Speedo worked and the bike ran fine.

the connectors look like this.

Rook , yes it hooks up like the speedohealer but it seems that I've read that with the speedohealer you had to cut a factory wire but maybe that was to disconnect the 189 mph governor. I've heard about the wet problems with the speedohealer , according to the manufacturer the speedodrd doesn't have this problem dunno. Hub this is what I've been thinking it worked before ok and after installation I had the problem. I was just hoping someone had to deal with this before and knew how to fix it. I would rather have the proper speed as the gear display. I will contact the company and see if they've heard of this problem and if they know of a fix. Thanks for all the help as this bike is a lot different than the bike I've owned before , like fuel injection, clamp on handle bars ,computerized speedo , pair and secondary flies to name but a few so far.

I said this confusingly, I bought the speedodrd for the zx14 because at 60 I was showing 75 on the speedo. I checked this by driving along side my wife's car and by road side radar. What I meant was the gear display was working fine before I installed the speedodrd and I had problems with it after the install. I know show the right speed so if I have live without the gear display I will. I don't mind the coughing but I feel she held my jewels a little to long.
