GenMar Riser Problem
12/22/12 9:29 AM

Picked up a set of GenMar risers and installed them today on my 2012 ZX14R. The risers fit fine but the caps wont go in the clip ons. They go in about 1/4 of an inch and stop. Tried gently convincing them with a rubber mallet but that didnt help. Anyone else have this problem ???

Just came back from a 50 mile ride and the risers feel perfect !!!

Your cap insert is different than mine. I will check with GenMar and ask if I have the right caps. Thanks for the pics !!

Why even use them? They prevent access to the preload and rebound damping adjusters.

Actually....No, the center caps snap on and off allowing for adjustment's to the suspension like preload and rebound damping.

The covers I got with my ebay specials don't go all the way in either. I just tapped them in and left well enough alone.

Gen Mar emailed me to get a few measurements from my bike. They had me measure the I.D. of my clip ons and they are going to make me a set of caps to fit no charge. They are a class act !!!!

Happy for ya...but I'm a bit confused about HOW the caps wouldn't seat...the little pointy thingies only go in about 1/4 inch or less...and that's all...the cap doesn't actually go flush with the genmar flange. It stops at the cap flange part.Shouldn't ever have to pound the cap in...you can push it in there with your fingers and hands. You just either pull or push those teeth in or out for your desired fitment tightness. This is weird=0

You see that pic in the center...there's a smidgen of cap sticking up...that's supposed to be like that...it's bigger than the ID of the genmar...on purpose...you pop a sharp screwdriver(or something similar that won't scratch the genmar finish) under that 'lip' to remove.Otherwise...it would go all the way in...you'd have to remove the genmar to get the cap out. It's made to be accessible so you can adjust the preload. Then recap.

GRN14: When I say "cap" I mean the sleeve that the pointy thingy goes into. The sleeve wont go down into the clip ons likes its supposed to. Please see the above pictures.

"GRN14: When I say "cap" I mean the sleeve that the pointy thingy goes into"...okay...I see what you're saying now.....sorry.

I didn't use the sleeve on mine.I think it's an option for whatever reason.Mine fit nicely and capped up without that sleeve in there.I didn't like the look of it sticking up past the clip-on surface.I would 'guess' that sleeve is so you can 'easily' get a screwdriver edge or something straight in under the cap,as opposed to angling the driver down and 'popping' that cap off that way.If you're careful...you won't scratch the surface.Course,if ya slip or something...it's on you I always used a teensy flattip screwdriver to get the caps off.Long as ya don't have those tines holding the cap in too strong...they pop right out.

Streetracer...any word on your issue with the risers, did they make you a new set and do they fit properly?
