The trade didnt go well.
02/23/14 1:13 PM

Went to the dealer yesterday to try and trade my 2013 Daytona 675 for a new zx14r. I wanted 9k for my bike and the most they were offering was 7k. Couldn't loose that kind of money since I a have 14k in the bike with accessories. So I went back home on the Daytona. To make matters worse I discovered a small oil leak after what was my first ride of the year so now the Daytona is at the dealer for repairs. I have an interested buyer but he isn't going to be happy when he hears about the leak. Hope my luck turns around soon, would like to officially join the forum as an owner...

Yeah, dealers try to rape you when trading

I hate to see what the barely used 2012 zx14rs are going for now, even to individuals. But to a dealer? Forget about it!

Hope your individual sale comes through. Good luck

I asked my dealer how much they would give me in trade for my 2012 14r towards a 2014... $9500.00!
This was back in November 2013.

Pull off the add-ons, sell them, and then sell the bike stock yourself.

Darkarcher: Dont be afraid to put out some feelers on Craigslist saying you have a Daytona to trade for a newer ZX14R. I was riding a Yamaha Raider and listed it for sale or trade for a ZX14R. A month or so later I made a deal with a guy that had a 2012 ZX14R with 1500 miles on it who wanted to slow down and ride a cruiser. I only had to add a little cash and we were both happy. It might work for you too.

Yep, dealers are not going to give you anything for your old machine, that's why I never trade in, I just keep the old bikes and add to the flock. My VTX 1300C on the far end of the row is now over 10 years old and still looks showroom fresh, that 675 is a heck of a bike and would be a nice stablemate for your new 14R, just my .02.

Dealers have to make enough to resell it so they want it for a steal. Personally I would have dumped some risolene in it and given it to the dealer. How much is this leak going to cost you to fix? Do you have to fix it immediately?
Also don't forget that when you trade in a bike you also save trade in value in tax. Do your shopping and do not say there is a trade in until you get an out the door number in WRITING... Tax, title, tags, freight & prep. After you have the real number then say these is a trade. Have you checked KBB value if your bike? 14K sounds like a lot. Might make sense to pull the extras off ans sell them yourself... Good luck

2015 30th Anniversary Edition 14R #250-> Brock's CT Ceramic Coated, Ivan's ECU Flash V2 & Map, Block off plates, HM Strain gauge quickshifter, GPR Damper, Spiegler lines, Muzzy's Sliders, Pazzo levers, Rizoma Next Fluid Tanks, DDM Ultra 5500K HID's Low & Hi, DB Windscreen, Cox Radiator guard, gold titanium bolts... too many to list at this point

You guys should know by now that money that you put into a bike is not an investment that will have a return. OEM or heavily modified will bring around the same. It's just the way it has always been. A super clean completely stock bike will actually bring more $$$$.

I was surprised myself. I thought it'd be higher. I bought it new outta the crate in march 13'. In 8 months it dropped almost 5 g's in value to them.

In all fairness, you bought a brand new bike at retail, and they are offering you wholesale on trade.

A. Buying a new bike off the showroom, you are taking a depreciation hit of probably 20%.
B. They need to make a profit on your bike. From the risk of taking it, to the work involved with running it through the dealership to re sell.

You got that right, if I were in the market for a used bike, I'd want it low mileage, one adult owner and stone stock. I don't even want a fender eliminator on there.

I barely find the free time to ride two!

Five is a real PITA in the winter time, if we get a good riding day or two I have to get out and ride all of them to stir up the oil and charge the batteries. It takes the fun out of it when you have to ride, summer times are fun though.

Found another dealer 6 hours from my house that is selling the same bike for about 2k less than my local dealer. The daytona is under warranty so its free to get the oil leaks fixed. Hoping it something major and I will just make them give me a new stock bike which I will sell, part out the accessories, and then go pick up the new Ninja. Either that or try to get a full refund for my bike if they cant fix the oil leak. Either way its a long shot but I'm still trying. Cant afford 2 payments and dont really have the space for 2 bikes in the garage.

As much as I hate to, I might have to put in the wrench time to put it back to stock, seems that is what everyone wants.

If you don't mind me asking, why are you such in a hurry to get rid of that 675? Out in the twisties, there's not much that's more fun.

To me, my machine is worth what I have in it ($17,000). If I were to sell it, sadly I know it would bring about half that. As for sellIng my parts, I'd recover about $1500-$1000 for the Brock's ct dual exhaust I gave $2295 plus tax for. My used PCV Would bring nothing

I also hate the idea of having to even think about taking the exhaust and PCV off to sell seperately.

Selling is not an option from a financial standpoint, nor do I even want to trade it. It's the best bike of its kind; the apex predator of sheer performance and I am proud to have it.

I just hope conditions never force me to sell it cause I know if I did I would take such s huge loss.

In my garage, its worth $17,000. I keep it and not lose a DIME! And I like that feeling!!!

But we are forced do what we don't want to do, but have to do. Best of luck.

My tactic is simple. I keep it!

If I want to trade it. I throw a brick through the stealership Window and say for a good trade I can make sure that never happens to you again!

My thoughts exactly, when they get old I simply drop the insurance coverage to liability only, about $8.00 a month.
The bike is long ago paid off and it costs about $60 a year for registration and state inspection so it's not going to break the bank. All you need then is few square feet in the garage to store it and some routine maintenance like oil and filters, tire change etc.

A bike doesn't become useless just because it's a few years old, they're still a blast to ride and if you have to have the latest and greatest, get that too but just remember, it'll be your next old bike.

Good point.

I have gotten over my need to have the "latest and greatest"

At least I think/hope I have. I guess I won't really know until the 14r is redone.

But seriously, if you are always trading you never gaining any equity, obviously

I have traded all I am going to. Get something fresh and new every time it's released and before long that is " the older model" and you are in the same boat again, only either deeper in debt or having lost your equity you were building in the previous bike

Wolf, a zx10 or even a gixxer would be an excellent track bike, don't write off the gixxer if you can find one cheap, they are still very good track bikes, but of course would prefer a 2nd gen ZX10 ....

Or if you are on a really tight budget, a ZX9 is also an option ....

When you have two bikes you question if its realistic and reasonable to have ant maintain both (it more than two in some cases)or have enough time to enjoy them all

But if you have only one, you are always thinking "I think I need a second bike!"

That is how I am anyway. And no, I am. It a woman. Lol

Wolf your way of coercing a dealer; your last name Gambino by any chance? Lol
