In a drag race I'd have to give the nod to Ricky because he's still racing competitively and that alone will give him an advantage. The newer bikes will tend to suit Ricky also as when Jay was "The Man" a fast bike had 100 horsepower or so at the tire. Now, will Jay run about as quick or possibly even quicker on a given day? Probably. Will Jay run more MPH in a 1/4 of a mile? Almost certainly. He's about 40 pounds lighter than Ricky unless he's gone on a massive weight gaining program in the past couple of years. Power/weight advantage: Jay. More finely tuned current drag racing skills: Ricky. Ricky should come out on top in a one on one drag race. Just my opinion of course.

You know, I didn't even think about it but I'll bet there might be a few members here young enough that they have to google "Pee Wee Gleason" to even know who the heck he is. Anybody near my age certainly knows who he is though. I saw him in a video circa 2009 and he still looked to be about a buck 25 soaking wet.

Back in the day he was the quarter mile king (number one hired gun) for most motorcycle magazines.

Had he not gone to Top Fuel rails, Antron Brown would likely be the King of Quick on two wheels. Gleason might have gained 10 lbs over the years, but he's still pretty small. Gadson has an up-and-coming nephew who's pretty quick, too. Anyone remember Angelle Seeling (or whatever her married name is now)? Sampey? Savoie?

Yes, Collins built the ATSF to try to beat T.C. Christensen's double Norton that was top dog in the quarter at the time.

Sad to say but Top Fuel isn't even a class anymore. It was determined to be too dangerous, so they banned it. Elmer Trett was the last Top fuel racer and he was down to doing exhibitions when he died at the track.

The so-called "Harley V-Rod" motor built and campaigned by Vance and Hines is a billet special that has no parts in common with the production motor. When The Motor Company shut down the VR roadrace program, they gave the 5-angle machine tooling to Byron Hines and commissioned him to build a dragracer. It IS a 60-degree V-twin, but that's where the similarity ends.

I was just re-reading "The Nitrous Wars" by my buddy Ed Killar. He was National Record holder from 1989-1993 in BN/G on his Z-1 based "Black Cat Special" laydown dragbike.
