front fender

Hey all-hope everyone's safe and sound! Thought I'd share a possible issue with the front fender.I would say every once in a while check your front fender mount area-especially the connection where she mounts up to the vertical bracket to the rear of the fork tube(on both sides).I recently was cleaning my front wheel and happened to look at the fender there-the plastic had cracked and separated from the mounting bolt, and also created an approximately 2" vertical crack upwards towards the top of the fender. The place where it was separated had pulled inward about 1/2".I can only think this was caused by incorrect tightening of the mount bolt(too tight probably)I had tightened it myself a while back(both actually) not thinking that I may be stressing the plastic under the bolt fastener(the metal eyelet).I remember while riding a while back that I heard a LOUD POP,but brushed it off as a rock or something. You guys might want to check your torque settings on those.Stay safe all-have fun!!

Thanks Blue. I have lost a couple of these bolts. I tightened them up good but perhaps I will put them in looser along with a squirt of locktight.

A suggestion... I had to do this when I mounted my carbon fiber ZX10 front fender with Dubious' brackets....

I put 2 white plastic washers between each side of the fender and the bracket on that side. So when I snugged it up, it only creaked a little. You might need only one per bolt. Each one is different.

I always try not to overtighten various fasteners and use blue loctite to insure they don't back out. For those not aware never use loctite on the body fasteners with the rubber grommets.

In my experience with my 14, the rubber wellnut fasteners do not come lose if they are tightened just enough to squeeze the rubber a bit. The fasteners that come loose are the ones that do not have well nuts. The bottom two fasteners on the lowers come loose. I've lost a couple of those. never had a wellnut come loose. They are designed to resist vibration and to be removed over and over without getting damaged. As much as PITA as the wellnuts seem to be at first, if you just tighten them up loose-snug, they do their job perfectly.
