09/10/16 5:50 AM

I havent done any work on this new zx08 any jacking up instructions would be gelpfull i need to put new tires on the bike only had four thousand miles when I got it the tires were from 2008 stock tires and they're just wearing off like I'm riding on some kind of disposable rubber tires little slippery because they're just disintegrating but back to the topic I have a CBR 1100 put it on the center stand take the rear tire off strap the back down take the front tire off how is this done without a center stand any advice would be great I do have a bike lift with a center Jack I could use. Thanks in advance. Brogs

There is a special bracket made by Kaw that fits around the outer edge of the oil pan. It's used with a double scissors jack. It's shown in the service manual. That's the only way I would jack under the engine though people do just place a chunk of wood on a regular floor jack to lift the front. You do still need a rear stand to do that. Spool stands are the way to go for rear stands.

For wheel removal, you need a rear stand and front stand or an Abba which supports in the swing arm pivot and straps to lift the front. I would suggest loosening all the bolts first.

Well i wanted to do both but not work on the ground.
Well I can't figure out how to post pictures yet but I used my bike lift and put an eye bolt in the ceiling for the front and a jack with spools on the rear

I have hung my front using a rear stand before but looped a strap over a ceiling joist or two. That was an awful lot of pressure to put on those joists. I heard a creak. I think that eye bolt will work but I would much prefer if it had a nut on the other end and a washer or something. I think the threads will hold it but....? Best place to suspend is near the wall. Use a swingarm pivot stand and that makes the front very light. Strap under the airbox.

Why the blocks of wood? There is a beam above there you screwed into, isn't there? Drywall isn't going to hold the weight.

Yeah you COULD rig up a system of pullies and what not from the roof but ... WHY???
Go to Cycle Gear or ebay and just buy a half decent set of front and rear stands. I got my rear stand for $30 from CG and my front for $29 from T-rex off ebay.
Saves a headache and potential damage to your bike.

^^ I agree but save the suspension idea for checking steering stem play. That's the only reason I've had to hang mine. Come to think of it, I needed a front stand to lift the front before I hung it anyway. That or the proper bracket to jack around the perimeter of the oil pan.
