looking at 06 need your input
07/29/09 6:22 PM

Hey guys I am looking at an 06 a guy has for sale. Like I said it is an 06 with about 1800 miles on it and he is asking $7,000 for it. It is completely stock never been down and always garaged. I talked to a guy at a stealership and he said 7k for an 06 is high. I'm thinking that is a pretty good deal from what I have seen on sites selling 06's.

Any input on the price and the 06 in general would be great. I never really looked at the ZX14 up until a few days ago. I've always wanted a Busa (don't kill me) but it is just not a fit for me. The tank hits my knees wrong and it feels more forward in the seating department, meaning it seems that you lean forward more for some reason. I've also looked at a Blackbird, WAY uncomfortable for me for some reason.

I didn't look at the ZX because 1. I thought my insurance would be ungodly and 2 I thought they would be way out of my price range. MAN i'm glad I was wrong on both counts.

Anyways all your thoughts would be helpful.

Thanks JRF

07 black and blue tear away 14, brock's parts: alien head full exhaust, front end strap, ceramic wheel bearing, brock's quick change lowering links. pulled flies, speedo healer, muzzys timing advancer, muzzys block off plates, K&N,+1 rear, pirelli and the list goes on but is classified from there.

I think that guy is holding out. He does have low miles though. If I were motivated to sell, I'd let my 08 go for $6,000 with 10K on the clock. I don't think $7K is outrageous but I'd feel pretty confident that you could wait on him for a few weeks to come down in price. Meanwhile, comb the net and even stealerships for an '06 or newer for the same/better price.

I sold an 06 with 21k on it the bike was very well kept but it had some miles on it. I think it went for 6350 or 6400 and I was asking 6700. Lookout for cracked frames, leaking valve covers, rattling cam chain and warped front rotors. You shouldn't really have to worry about much else. I tried to stomp the life out of that bike every time I got on it and ran like it was brand new when I sold it. As for Insurance for some reason insurance on a 06-07 was about 40% cheaper than an 08-09 the last time I checked with GEICO. I have no idea why that is but and the agent could not explain it to me either so if you consider an 08 check the insurance rate against the 06-07 first.

NADA value is $7200.00 in very good condition. Kelley Blue Book value is $7855.00 in very good condition. That's all you care about. I used to work at a car dealership and a Kawasaki dealership. I've sold both cars and motorcycles at some point in my life. We "ONLY" looked at those two books. You don't care about what someone else paid for a bike that has had any kind of custom or after market work done to it because it's "ALWAYS" fucked up. In sales, when someone was trying to sell a motorcycle that has had any of these things done to it. We would that the value of the motorcycle, the cost of the custom or after market parts, add them together, then cut it in half. Point is, A GOOD CLEAN TOTALLY STOCK MOTORCYLE" is worth a lot more then one that someone has already started to screw up. This sounds like a OK deal, put you can always offer him less. Think about, it doesn't cost you anything and most people selling expect it. So offer him (or her) $6000.00 and see what they say. All they can do is say no.
