Maintenance-The German Way

Maintenance
German seems to be thorough in everything that they do. I like this guy channel- good information and how to's. He even went as far as calculating the lean angle he needs to drag his knee (42°).

Wonder why he sprayed WD-40 all over the inside of the swingarm?

He probably uses it as general cleaner/polisher.

Well, I'm mostly German, but I believe in using the right tool for any job. WD-40 is for water displacement and not much else. It works pretty good for removing leftover glue when decals and stickers are removed. Poiish is polish.

I wipe my swing arm down and clean my exhaust with WD40. I used to use to wipe down the factory wheels as well. Cleans off chain lube and road grime nicely. I love the stuff!

sure. WD works fine for chain fling but I just use kerosene since that's what I'm using when I clean the chain. Nice touch to remove the whole wheel to clean chain though. can't knock those Germans for not being thorough.

Yep, I use WD40 for my exhaust as well...Does a great job! I had to remove my tires to get new rubber mounted so I cleaned my chain that way. It worked great so I also sprayed WD40 on my swing arm etc. It cleaned the road grim pretty well!! I read somewhere that WD40 was intended to be a lube but the recipe wasn't quite right. Later people found out it was great at cleaning parts. I'm going to borrow a couple of pages from that guy, looks like he knows what he's doing.

but most people don't seem to like WD for o-ring chains. I found a lot of flakes of rubber flying out of my chain after using WD to clean it. ...for anyone who hasn't heard this age old conundrum.

Rook I know you think this is bad but I use WD40 to clean my chain and it works great along with a grunge brush. I then take the bike for a ride and heat the chain up and apply a nice thin layer of lube to the warm chain when I get back. I let the lube sink in over night. Im at 11250 miles and the chain sprocket still looks pretty good even after multiple WD40 cleanings !

WD40 and Armor All. No use for either one. There's nothing either one is any good for that some other product doesn't do better.

WD-40 stands for Water Displacement formula #40. NASA wanted a spray that would displace water condensed onto circuits and wires. Never use WD-40 as a lube, it will stop the squeak for a short bit, then gum-up and collect dirt and crud

WD40 not used for lube, used to clean, then chain is lubed with chain lube. thats three lubes in a sentence.

Just wondering what you use to clean off the WD-40 before you chain lube?? Oh, you don't clean it off before it's trapped under the chain wax, attacking the o-rings .... good reason to change the chain and sprockets. Just saying.

After multiple WD/Grunge brush apps I take a clean towel and clean all of the remaining gunk/wd off. This step takes a while. Ride to heat chain up. Then apply chain lube. Works great.... Just sayin'

I have used WD40 to clean my o-ring chains for the last 15 years without a problem.
