First, let us discuss which oil you are using.

Discuss which dyno you are using next.

yes. 180 rear wheel hp is right where it should be. The 200 hp figure is engine output. you loose some hp through the transmission.

It's my understanding that while its nice to know "how much power my motorcycle makes" a dyno is best suited as a tool to help with tuning. Get a baseline graph of the power/torque, make changes, get an updated graph, make changes, etc.

As both hagrid and Rook have alluded to, MANY factors can influence the numbers that are generated on a dynamometer. Air temp, humidity, the dyno itself, the dyno operator, fuel, oil, valves, air filter, etc will all have an impact (some big, some small) on what the chart shows.

In my opinion, those numbers look good to me, if you were making 100hp and blowing blue smoke I would be greatly concerned. A better test to check the health of the engine is a compression and a leak down test, both of which need to be done with the valves properly adjusted.

While the service manual states a range of an acceptable range of pressure readings doing a compression test it is much more useful if you have a good baseline to go off of. For example, if you do a compression test and you are only getting 170psi, which for the sake of the conversation, is on the low end of the acceptable range, it could either be an indicator of a huge issue if the baseline was 220psi which we'll pretend is on the high end of the range. A big drop indicates that there's an issue, where as if you went from 180psi to 170psi, that's not really a big deal. The other big thing to watch out for with a compression test is the difference between cylinders, if cylinder 1 is reading 200psi but cylinder 2 is reading 150psi there is most likely a problem.

A leak down test is typically not something that a home mechanic can do, it pressurizes the cylinders and measures how much air leaks past the valves and piston rings, combined with a compression test it can provide a lot of insight into how the engine is doing.

So... save the dyno sheet for another day when you start modding the bike then go out and enjoy riding.

A stock 14r making 180 at the wheel is no cause for concern particularly. There really is no bike that is a bigger pain in the ass to do a compression check or leakdown test than this one. All side plastics and tank cover need to come off and access to the plug holes is pretty awful even then, due to the monocoque design. At 27k I would throw some fresh plugs and stock air filter in there; I think it'll pick up a couple ponies. A flash tune from a reputable service like 2 Wheel Dynoworks, Guhl, Brock's will definitely up the pony count.

Throw some 0 weight oil in the bike for a extra 1 or 2 hp and re-dyno

(Hagrid - there you go)

Just wondering also, now i have these results,

should i set my change gear flasher, or redline flash light thingy to come on at 9'000 and flash at 10'000 rpm ?

What should I set the launch assist light to come on at about you think ?

Although i do mostly use it to commute to work, I do a track day once a month and like to Boogie on with all you boys ;-)

Thank you Maddy x

Looking at dyno not much need to go above 9k, and by time you zhift will be higher.

You can feel power fall off when time to shift. Hopefully removed safety mode too when flashed.

I like launching at 3500.

I'm sure others have personal preference.

I set my launch light to 2000 rpm and usually the shift light is set at 6000. This is so I actually get to se them. If I set them higher like you would for racing, I'd never see them on the street. For a track day....I think I'd do the same as street. There is so little need to worry about what gear you're in for road racing the 14. The power band is everywhere over 3000 rpm. If you drag race, I'd set the shift light at 9500 because that is where your dyno sheet shows you are making peak power. The launch light---that's as high as you dare. I think most would go for about 6000 rpm for a drag race launch if they are experienced.

The launch light---that's as high as you dare. I think most would go for about 6000 rpm for a drag race launch if they are experienced.

Please no one try to launch a 14 at 6,000 rpm. That's "way" to high.

You will either kill yourself or just needlessly burn up your clutch.
More then likely just spin up the rear and crash.

Experience has nothing to do with it. Rickey Gadson doesn't even launch the
14 that high. Rickey Gadson goes for a launch around 3,500 rpm. Dont need anything higher

Now on my ZX10 different story, it doesn't have the power to get off
the line quick so I try to launch it between 6-7,000 rpm.

Your bike could use a flash but that butt is fine.

Thank you all for advice and the input on my butt, lol.

Hi Piken, Whats "safety Mode" please?

Basically if the bike thinks it's going faster then it should be,
it will start closing the fly's and retarding the timing.

Pinning the throttle to the stop first through 3rd you will
feel it kick in, feels like you are hitting the top of the
power curve when you really are not there yet.

This can be flashed out.

That's the best I can think to explain it.

If someone can explain better go for it.

Ah yes..reminds me of when I studied engineering and there were 2 girls for every 100 dudes. So every time a girl would drop a pencil, a male struggle would ensue to see who would pick up the pencil and gain favor of the girl.
So what would be the male equivalent of a Maddy? Here is one example that comes to mind.. The last pic is of myself, and yes I am transitioning.

I have not made fun of you, but made a funny observation about male behavior in company of women. If you wish to post ass shots (for arts sake) why dont you appreciate my sense of humor (for arts sake) I along with a few guys thought it was rather funny. Dont play the victim and dont try to control my speech. Ask all questions you want, just remember we will need a photo to give us guys extra motivation. How silly of u to get upset over nothing.

For the guys who wish to white night and bash me for talking back to a woman, I'm ready to take it on the chin or ass which ever you prefer. Just remember it is not socially acceptable to verbally assault an individual who is transitioning.

Nova, if you just want to get into a bathroom quicker to take a piss, I think you're headed on the wrong direction. You can use what ever bathroom you feel you most identify with without changing the equipment.
